After sitting with this for a few days now, like most of us I really am impressed. There's nothing quite as out there as Dance, but there is a lot of that adventurousness sprinkled throughout the record, even in the songs that might seem more "conventional." I don't think I could put it up with the 90s stuff, but this is not a band that's resting on anything, which is pretty laudable after what I would argue was a pretty long drought.

I appreciate the sequencing the more times I listen to this album. As my esteem for songs on the second half continues to grow, I find it less uneven than I initially thought. Good God, this is such a beautiful album. I love it.

The first eight song are all damn good to amazing. Comes the Goes is amazing. Retrograde has a beautiful two minute crescendo. River Cross is an excellent closer, and Buckle Up is even starting to grow on me. It’s pretty remarkable. Gigaton is seriously fantastic. Give the second half a fair chance.
