Re: Anybody want a Corona?
I love the complete lack of awareness of what exists in this country where one can say "just improve the ventilation" while many kids walk into a building that is leaking and falling down, while expired food awaits them in the cafeteria, and there is lead in their water fountains.

Yeah that whole “improve ventilation” thing casually mentioned is such a lack of awareness. It’s a major undertaking. Not like that can be done anywhere you want over a holiday weekend.

Slightly. Maybe. It's unclear that there is ANY impact on education.Matters wrote:Mask wearing diminishes face to face communication.

Yeah but we can't take any risks with education so we should fire all the teachers who are wearing masks and replace them with someone from the overflowing pool of available teachers. One thing we definitely don't have is a shortage of teachers, and it's better for a kid to learn from an unmasked former bus driver than it is from a masked education professional.

Weird how that doesn't apply to shitty mask (shitty applying to construction regarding ability to reliably capture viral particles) mandates.B wrote:Yes. If it saves one life logic is not extended to if it helps one kid learn speech.

I think it does. Clear message is that a well-fitting, N95 mask. Everything after that is convincing people to wear that.simple schoolboy wrote:Weird how that doesn't apply to shitty mask (shitty applying to construction regarding ability to reliably capture viral particles) mandates.B wrote:Yes. I wear a cloth mask. I know it's not as good, but I'm too cheap to keep a running supply of N95. That's not science, that's just my shitty risk assessment. It's not as good. It's not completely worthless. Where it is on the spectrum between worst and best isn't known, because once you know what's best (N95) no one's going to study the worse shit.
What was my price for not following the science? COVID, I guess. But it wasn't the worst case because I kinda sorta followed the science. So, I kinda sorta got COVID.

Just respond that “these situations are not comparable” and leave it at that.B wrote:I think it does. Clear message is that a well-fitting, N95 mask. But saving a life is permanent. Learning speech is a continuum. And one that could be carried out outdoors, mask free. Or over a computer, mask free. Or even between windows with prison phones, mask free.simple schoolboy wrote:

Yeah, you can still accommodate special needs. Mrs. B uses a face shield to teach kids with speech problems or autistic kids who are learning what different facial expressions mean.
She also has a kid who eats his mask, so he has a mask exemption. That's not related. I'm just amused by her trying to teach a kid who eats his own mask.

B don't you work in public health? Cloth masks are basically useless.
