So, where does the Lightning Bolt build-up/anticipation rank among your favorite build-ups/anticapations for any previous records by any other bands?

And yes, that's a serious question.

Probably the highest for any album/band for the last 10 years. I can't think of any during that time, including PJ, that I've felt so involved in the build-up process (and I can't remember seeing another band do so much in the months leading up).

I think PJ have done a great job on this build-up. This surprised me, because a few months ago I thought everything was half-assed, and it looked like they were making it up as they went along.

Back then my anticipation was quite low - but is now through the roof. I hope the album lives up to my expectations now.

That month after the album announcement where nothing happened at all was tough, but its been great ever since

I've enjoyed the build up more than probably any Pearl Jam album Riot Act, maybe even Yield (mainly from being here), but at the same time, my excitement for the actual album is the lowest of any Pearl Jam album ever. I still hope it's a really good record though.

Guys I know I've been harsh about some of the tracks but you will be pleased. There's something for everyone it seems. Good luck this week and stay strong. It'll be worth it.

Why is it lower? Just because the last few albums haven't been the best?

Yeah. Backspacer I didn't care for at all, almost instantly, and S/T only had a few months worth of staying power for me. The shows I've seen post-2005, while always good, have not been great the way the 1995-2005 shows I saw were. The Wrigley show was the first Pearl Jam show where there were significant chunks that I legitimately didn't enjoy. I like Mind Your Manners, but Sirens does nothing for me. The Manics, CHVRCHES, & Janelle Monae all putting out albums last month also monopolized my general sense of anticipation for things. Now that all of those albums have been out for a few weeks and PJ is the next one up, my excitment has built a bit, but it's still not at the level of any prior PJ releases. I'm hoping that's a good thing though. There's not a lot of pressure on the album for me, so it should be easy to take the positives for what they are right off the bat.

It's a really good album. Not top tier, but right below it.

I've had build ups since Binaural.

Binaural: I didn't even know Yield existed when I listened to this. Really loved it early on, then got bored. With the B-sides, this is a consistent listen for me now.

Riot Act: Really excited about the build. Felt slight disappoint early on, which gave way to the crushing indifference I now feel about this album.

S/T: Leading up I was expecting a "return to form", so when everything was screamy and energetic I got very excited. Loved the first half early on, but never really warmed to the second half. Now I barely listen to this.

Backspacer: By this stage, I had stopped expecting Pearl Jam to put something amazing out, so expectations were low. I remember being positive, but I kept on saying to friends "I think more casual listeners are going to love it", never "I love it". I usually don't skip much of it, but that's more because it's a quick listen, and there's nothing that offends (except SOS).

LB: Expectations low again, but I think I'm going to enjoy this one. I love Sirens, but I LOVED Unthought Known as well. I keep on having to suppress the hope for a late-career classic.

If I can get more than three months of regular rotation out of it, and a song or two that join the group of "Pearl Jam tracks I always keep in rotation" then I'll consider it to be a success.

When you guys listen to the actual Lightning Bolt song for the first time try to do it loud and moving around. it's not a sit still kind of song.

:nice:

I'm looking forward to Friday. I've got the day off to deal with some important things, so It'll be great to be able to pick up the album first thing in the morning. I'll give it a few spins throughout the day.

I hope it's a good sunny day too, that usually helps boost the enjoyment of many albums for me.
