Downtown MPLS has always sucked except for a very small portion of it.
Maybe i should go back and help burn it down!

Sounds like the police could have arrested him years ago, but I suppose it wasn't a priority.macphisto wrote:You'd have to ask his ex-girlfriend, but it was apparently bad enough to result in a 911 call. I mean, we're back to how do these things start?
Police come out to tell a guy to leave his ex-wife's house b/c he's not supposed to be there.
[5 minutes]
Police are mowing down a man in the street.
I'm not saying every situation can be de-escalated by police, but their record with black suspects is particularly shitty.
Eric Garner sold loose cigarettes, so he was choked to death.
George Floyd used a counterfiet bill, so he was choked to death.
Dajerria Bector was at a loud pool party, so she was slammed on the ground.
Breonna Davis once dated a drug dealer, so she was gunned down in her own bed.
Philandro Castile was pulled over for a routine traffic stop, so he was shot in front of his girlfriend and kid.
No. Fucking NO!
Fuck this, Jacob Blake had a knife bullshit. Maybe he did. Maybe he even tried to fight them.
The police were called to deal with trespassing and paralyzed a man with seven gunshots in front of his kids to KEEP him from leaving. Why the fuck do you think people want the cops to be replaced with social workers?
Also, we have long since discussed how few 911 calls actually need an armed officer to respond. Trespassing may or may not be on that list. How many white men get shot for trespassing?
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

If instead of "arrested him years ago" you had gone with "shot him years ago" this would have been POTM.

He was shot for being black.

Wowza. Could have been a very misguided attempt to show solidarity, but probably just a racist troll with big balls.BurtReynolds wrote:

Re: The Protest Thread
I'm baffled by the whole violent protest "movement"/whatever.
How is it possibly permitted to continue when people are killing each other?
It seems like such a blatant abrogation of the responsibility to maintain public order.
Bring in the riot police, water cannons, etc.

Re: The Protest Thread
How about someone in authority open up a dialogue about making some real and actual change to even begin to address the issues that people are protesting about?
I am not for violence at all but in this case it seems like tit for tat. Cops keep killing people, people are burning shit down in response. The fact that white citizens with guns (read: vigilantes) are being tacitly approved of by the local authorities and allowed to walk around with guns fully ready leads me to believe that the riots and craziness is almost being encouraged at this point.
People are protesting police abuse. Additional police abuse won't help things here.

Re: The Protest Thread
No, attacking and burning down the livelihoods of people who have nothing to do with their problems is not tit-for-tat. It's brainlessly attacking innocent people, and those people have every right to protect themselves and their property with deadly force. And a look at the reduced level of rioting tonight in Kenosha suggests that you are wrong that defending yourself with guns encourages more rioting.Higgs wrote:How about someone in authority open up a dialogue about making some real and actual change to even begin to address the issues that people are protesting about?

Ngo said this was the first night in Portland without a riot in 93 days. Is it because everyone is in D.C.? Something else?
