Isn't that another item on the list of reasons to try and stabilize relations with them in place of fighting this proxy war through Ukraine?

Is it? Really?

Third of Europes internet comes through Ireland and the data centres. The number of deep sea data cables from here to the US is immense.

Their subs and warships have been hovering over those cables for a few years now.
We have no military capability at all, we’re not in nato and no interest in joining we’re a neutral country and always have been (this of course won’t matter if it comes to it)
They’ll go for the cables first.
The British and US subs are crawling up their asses but they don’t care.
‘We’re here. They’re not in NATO. WTF are you gonna do about it?’
Kinda thing.

China's economy is about to snap

their latest stimulus program is likely inadequate

it will be interesting to see how much longer they are committed to being a russian partner when they inevitably acknowledge that the solution to their economic problem lies with increasing economic partnership with the west

to do that, they will need to stop supporting russian war supply chains

fortunately this highly knowledgeable person thinks the new russian doctrine is fake. And based on things i have read from Richard Haass, I agree it is fake
so we can continue defending Europe from subjugation to authoritarian Russia and remain able to vacation to Firenze to see giant ancient perv porn statues

I see the republicans are following their daddy Trump and now wanting to basically freeze out Ukraine funding. God luck in the near future, Latvia and Moldova. At least we won’t have nuclear war!

There is a lot of that in this thread. But let's not forget Neville Chamberlain with Peace In Our Time.

This might not seem relevant but I think it is.

There’s a ship called Ruby that’s been ‘adrift’ in need of repairs and acting suspiciously in the North Sea and English Channel for the last few weeks. Reports saying the hull is cracked and might need welding but AN goes boom boom near that kind of heat or flame.
It has a cargo on board of 20,0000 tons of ammonium nitrate. Which is about 7 times more AN than was in the explosion in Beirut a few years back. A few countries have denied it permission to port and refuel given its cargo and the amount and the cargo having come from Russia

It is now anchored off the English coast and near ‘critical infrastructure’ like the channel tunnel and a nearby port. There’s a sunken American freighter nearby from 1944 the SS Richard Montgomery, sank during the war and it’s packed with explosives
