Did they have any theories about that adopted daughter sex tape plot point? That seemed very out of place with the rest of it but as they dedicated minutes of screen time to it, I assume it's relevant. Chekhov's gun and all.

What about that scene seemed out of place to you?

It’s unusual to establish a character with a “you just made illegal underage p04n” situation

Epijoe's reasons are undoubtedly horrible and based on genitalia of the actors involved, but I have to admit that he is right about the first three seasons of true detective. This is a massively overrated show including season 1 which frankly isn't that good.

i loved S1, loved it very much. Its overrated? maybe i dont really care how people measure things. What they say and think changes with time, even my own conceptions. What i remember is that i had so much fun watching it in real time, and that wont change.
Will this season be better? impossible to know with just one episode, i dont think its also fair to compare it with S1 because it wont be the same impact to me, but maybe if its really good and the themes are well handled, maybe yes.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

The serial killer plot is probably the worst thing about the season. It veers between nonsensical and uninteresting. It even felt to me like the season was cut short or had massive rewrites halfway through. It ends with a dull thud for me.
The leads are great, it has some great lines, and the overall tone and setting is fabulous, but it didn't add up to much. Cole often comes off as the first year philosophy student who read a little Nietzsche, Schoppenhauer and Ligotti, but didn't understand much of it.
I loved the bit about West Louisiana/East Texas being a place not fit for human habitation. So true. It's a spirit crushing wasteland.

So, Matthews McConaughey then.

Watched the first episode of the newest season to see what all this hubbub is about.
So what is this, American Horror Story for people who like cop shows?

I lived in West Texas (San Angelo) for about 7 months. It isn't any better.

Let's keep in mind Nic Pizzolatto did not write Season 4. So, for an anthology series, that kind of makes it True Detective in name only

yeah, but Issa Lopez already said there will be hints about this story being in the same universe as the previous seasons Argo
