BigRedLedbetter wrote:My only problem with this whole Balor/Owens match is there is no suspense whatsoever who is going to win. Balor is obviously going to go over. All of these segments about Balor have been great but why not do these until after he wins the title? Also, lots of rumors out there it's Owens v Cena III at Summerslam. It just makes no sense to me from a booking stand point. I really like Balor and I think he is going to make an excellent NXT champion but it's just odd they are doing this the way the are doing it. Like the commercials for the show next week say something to the extent of Balor arriving. Also, they keep talking about all the success he has had in Japan. Yes, we get it. He is going to win the title.
So, I think they didnt really plan on having Owens pushed so hard on the main roster this summer when they put the NXT title on him. He's been such hit on the main roster that he cant go back now, but they never really had the chance to take the title off him. He's been built as such a monster that it's hard to have him lose to anyone at this point, especially someone in NXT. I think the Balor telgraphing was done because he is so over in Japan and they want the fans to know that ahead of time going into this match. I think it would be best to have Joe cost Owens the match, but do it in a way that turns Joe heel and he can feud with Balor for the title down on NXT. It gives Owens a clean break from NXT without him losing clean.
I bet the powers that be were like ok lets feed this Owens guy to Cena. Then as over as he got they were like oh fuck. They probably didn't see this happening. Something tells me Vince has no idea how good STeen was in RoH the last few years he was there. Like maybe heard it from folks but he probably didn't watch with his own eyes.

Agreed with the Balor/Japan theory there. He will get massive pops. At the risk of sounding smarky I am excited for the fans who don't watch much rasslin in Japan to see how good a Japanese crowd is. It's pretty unreal. It's like a Mania crowd almost all the time. I have a few Japanese wrestling DVDs (mostly NWA stuff from the 70s and 80s) and the crowds are incredible.

The Rock is the greatest. Great surprise for the crowd in Boston last night.

Seriously. He doesn't even have eye brows anymore haha.

I dig the Rock. I am kinda over him in the ring. I'm sure he will be part of WM 32 in some way. I think him and HHH could actually have a good match. There needs to be something behind it though. Rock's last few matches were not very good. I expected much more from his matches with Punk. They just didn't have great chemistry together. The Elimination Chamber match was ok but their Royal Rumble match was a clusterfuck. Rock really should have out Punk over at RR and Rock could have won the title at EC. Rock's first match with Cena at WM 28 was good but the WM 29 was terrible. One of the worst Mania main events ever.

So some festival doesn't want WWE champions there.....

haha that's awesome. I wouldn't let Seth Rollins anywhere near a festival I was organising either ;)

I hear ya on The Rock wrestling. Dude is my all-time fave without question, but he's proved everything he needs to in terms of actually having matches, so I'm fine if he just pops up every now and then, schools fools on the mic and then finishes them off with a Rock Bottom/People's Elbow. Back in October when he interrupted Rusev, or at WM31 in April...that's the stuff that gets me pumped these days.

That second match with Cena...I watched it again recently and good lord its bad.

Yep the Mania thing with Trips, Steph and RR was great. Rock is obviously still a draw. One of the biggest ever. They are going to go all out for Mania this year. Rock will be involved somehow. I really doubt RR is allowed to compete at Mania 32. If I am Dana White I wouldn't let that happen with as big of a draw as RR is.

Yes that WM 29 main event is just embarrassing. Like Punk talked about on the podcast with Colt Cabana it really should have been a triple threat with him, Rock and Cena. I just don't understand how you have a dude carry the belt for 14 months, have the longest reign in 25 years, bring mainstream appeal back to wrestling like he did and then just have him job to Taker. Granted the Taker/Punk match was excellent but still. Most of Punk's matches were excellent when his heart was in it.

I had a daydream the other day. Lets say they don't bring Batista back at Rumble 2014. Punk wins the Rumble, Bryan beats HHH at Mania 30 to get in the main event, then the main event is Orton/Punk/Bryan for the title. Bryan wins, Punk gets the Mania main event he deserved and maybe the best pro wrestler the last decade is still around.

I like the sound of that. Its a shame really, because I think if Punk had stuck around then no way Bryan gets into the main event and wins the gold. Its hilarious that Vinnie Mac seriously believed that fans would LOVE a Batista/Orton main event in 2014. Just saying it out loud is enough to make you cringe.

Its also indicative of such disproportionate egos that Triple H and Vince believed that only in 2014 did Punk finally deserve a match with Triple H where Punk goes over. Three years too late, Trips had zero business beating Punk at NOC in 2011. Unreal booking.

I hate to disagree with anything Rock does, but I truly believe he didn't need to win the strap in 2013. He could still come back and face Cena and lose in the semi-main event or whatever, but Punk should've held the belt until Mania and main evented.

Rock was a guy that was never really great in the ring to begin with. It's hard for him to create chemistry wih guys when he works only one match with them.

I'm really intrigued by the Kofi/Brock match at the Japan show. I wonder what kind of effort Brock is going to put forth.

Yeah, its such a strange match to book. Perhaps it turns into a 3 vs 1 match and gives Brock an excuse to tear through the whole team.

I think Rock back in the day was very underrated in the ring. He may not have been as technically sound as the likes of Benoit, Jericho, Angle etc, but back then he seemed to click with everyone he faced and never looked lost in his matches. He was athletic, fast, strong, explosive. More than capable imo.

I don't understand this Brock/Kofi match. How about Brock v Sheamus or something? Give him a credible opponent. I am pondering getting Smackdown tickets here in July. It's two days after Battleground. So maybe Brock will be there?

I agree. Rock was kind of underrated in the ring in his prime I thought. You won't confuse him with Bret Hart or Eddie Guerrero but still pretty damn good with the right guy. Recently watched his Iron Man match with HHH in 2000 and thought it was great. Also, his match with Angle when Angle won the title (2000 No Mercy) is criminally underrated I think. If I am nitpicking Rock kinda over sold at times (especially with Austin) and sometimes his cardio wasn't always the best. Which is odd for a High School All-American/D1 football player.

I really want the E to sign the Briscoe Brothers already. Numbers you and I have talked about this before. The E would probably ruin them but they are doing much better with Steen/Owens then I thought they would.

Currently watching some 2012 Punk matches. Pound for pound one of the best heel runs of all-time I think. His run from summer 2012 to Mania 2013. Just awesome stuff.

I really would like to be there when they decide to book Mark Henry v Big Show on TV in 2015 so I could slap everyone in the face.

Swagger is awful. Such a charisma vacuum. It came out lately that he is unhappy with his role right now. Oh really? It would be a shame if Swagger left.

I really like Mark Henry but yeah what the fuck haha.

Cena and Cesaro have great chemistry. Every time they match up(which isn't often) it's a fantastic match.
