I really loved
We but I couldn't stand their wholesome inspirational shtick after the accusations.

One or two good songs, but not a good album. That was pre-accusations.
They lost it, and that's okay. Many bands have suffered the same fate. Look at Kings of Leon! One strong single and then absolute trash for the remainder of the album.

I know it was pre-accusations, which is why I said "but I couldn't stand... after the accusations"

even if i never cared much for what they were preaching, and boy did they preach, i felt the accusations totally got into their whole thing. I also feel after Reflektor they lost the plot and We seemed like a course correction.

I'm a bellend because you misinterpreted my post? I stopped listening to We (and all Arcade Fire) after the accusations, I don't know how to explain that to you in a way that doesn't provoke your irrational ire

Nah, you chose to lose your shit over something completely innocuous. I wasn't even correcting or disagreeing with you. You're just emotionally regarded. Kind of like Arcade Fire these days.

Watched their SNL performance and it was a massive turnoff, even bigger than their last record.
Thank goodness we can keep that little bubble of pure 2004-13 Arcade Fire on the shelf.

Preach. I saw them in '08 and it's still one of the best sets I've ever witnessed. Energy was ridiculous.

i think will butler was the one who kept things cookin' up there. haven't been the same since.
at least offset regine's total lack of stage presence.

Maybe it's just early 40s white guilt and shame showing its grotesque face, a smelly flower

Eh, they can write a tune and have interesting sounds but Win sounds like he is really leaning into the creepy weirdo “persona”. That line about how he is a real boy and his heart isn’t made out of wood reminds me of the song between Dee and Dennis Reynolds in the Nightman Cometh show where it’s like “little boy, ooo, tiny boy, oooo” it’s a pity that Regine doesn’t add a disclaimer on at the end of it.
But some of the other lyrics are just creepy too. I met her and her hand was in someone else’s I realised I was a jealous man, I can be a movie star and you can be an actress… hmmm do you really want to be singing that with your co dependent wife who you have a seemingly open marriage with? Ok sure. There are lots more lines like that.
By the last song where he is like get out of bed, it’s just rings hollow. Pick yourself up from the floor kind of thing… jeez, maybe if you want to be taken seriously acknowledge that you are flawed and lost your audience because you built your own pedestal on righteousness and then toppled it. There is no humility. That is what if find off putting about them.

It seems to me he's at least partly mocking himself and apologizing for his ways. It's very artsy and raw, and I like it. It means something.

he needs to do more than "mock himself" and play with a persona like a thousand other white indie kids, he needs to take responsibility for things he's done
