I can't imagine being that guy. I'd be wrecked for life.
I could only take a little solace in knowing that this kid passed on thinking that there was something good waiting for him on the other side. He didn't pass away afraid.
Yeah but then just think about the deep black nothingness that actually awaited him
I mean, that is probably more peaceful than painful cancer so
Peacefulness describes a state of being, though.

I just meant from my point of view it would appear more peaceful. Just so i don't have to feel bad about the reality of what LV said.

Nay, because the death penalty is inherently wrong.

Very brief version: I just don't believe a state or country should have the authority to kill its citizens (or anyone else who's subject to their legal system). I also think that the criminal justice system should focus on rehabilitation and not punishment/revenge--even if someone is sentenced to life in prison, I want the system to try and work to reform them, somehow. I don't have any fancy-smancy philosophical arguments handy, but I could try to think of some.
So Dylan Roof: Death Penalty, yay or nay? Why? I have mixed feelings.
Yay. Put that fucker 6 feet under. His crime was pure evil and he had no remorse over his deeds at all. He ended those lives for no other reason than he didn't like the color of their skin. He shouldn't get to keep what he took from those people.

The entire legal process is inherently marred by human bias at every stage, and by that I mean the limits of and false positives provided by our perception, intuition, and logic systems. Committing to an acceptance of execution on the basis of human judgment is nothing short of acknowledging that retribution is more important to you than protecting innocent lives.

Anybody who supports the death penalty should read The Invisible Gorilla and Thinking Fast and Slow...neither of which are books about the legal system or police force. A fair, fail-safe, human-reliant legal system cannot exist.

I don't have any moral problem with killing murderers and such, its just that our justice system has proven itself to be too flawed to handle the responsibility. They execute innocent people all the time.

The bold part seems like a blanket statement. Playing devil's advocate, but what if I feel that the financial resources spent supporting an inmate for 80 years would be better spent elsewhere? Of course I know that it actually costs very little to support an inmate, given the quality of live they have, but I think the point still stands in theory.
These things are facts:

1. We...human beings...are incapable of having an inmate execution system that never executes innocent people.

2. Having a death penalty drastically increases the number of legal avenues we have to provide inmates with in order to try and make every effort to minimize the number of executed innocents.

3. Having a death penalty therefore must be more expensive than not having one. Unless you want to openly own the killing of innocents and just drop those legal protections altogether.

You can't have the executions without the expenses, so it's hard to see why finances would be an argument in the death penalty's favor.

Except it costs more to execute someone than it does to imprison them for life.

McPs point is really the crux of the whole issue. Humans are fallible, and execution is irreversible. There for if human judgment is relied on, you're morally obligated to have a system of punishment that can be undone if necessary.

It's pretty common sense if you ask me. It's like McP said, if you're willing to ignore these facts then you're more worried about revenge than protecting the innocent from death they do not deserve. And if that's the case you are a disgusting human being.

to me there really doesn't even need to be much of a discussion, either you're ok with executing people who have committed no crime or you're not

everything else in this debate is just noise

which is completely ridiculous and should not be the case, but then again: government.

Yeah, we really should streamline the process and not spend all this money on appeals. I mean, it's not like we've ever killed the wrong guy.
