Harris is hilarious. It's kind of like if Reid and Pete had a pod and then Jordan joined them for a bit. I goddamn loved it.
I do wish they'd listen to more of the songs (like in the REM iteration) and discuss them track by track in a bit more detail. But otherwise, I'm digging it.
Aw man. I’m gonna miss that.
Maybe they end up doing that more eventually? But right now I miss it tremendously.
Though, to balance that out, the focus on the "comedy" aspect is amped way up. I think if I'd started at the beginning I wouldn't have been thrown by the first REM episode. Scott CLEARLY thinks the "we talk EXCLUSIVELY about the band" shtick is the funniest thing in the world. It feels like that's the premise and the only reason he wanted to do this. To joke about and parody pod's that talk about one thing and only one thing with experts. To him, THAT'S the goddamn joke. You get that from the U2 eps, for sure.
But I'm laughing my ass off. Each ep is better than the previous. I'm enjoying it a lot. But I do think, so far, the REM eps were overall stronger.

But I'm also not overly familiar with their whole body of work. But more than a "cheesy" sound (which is hard to define and a little silly) I think it's more of a lack of general authenticity.
Ultimately, I think it's why Backspacer and Lightning Bolt (though I enjoy them more than most here) aren't as good. It feels like Pearl Jam trying to sound like Pearl Jam. Or what they think the masses like about Pearl Jam, what will sound good at a stadium full of people. U2 sounds like that to me. Like a band trying to sound like the biggest band in the world and acting like it's still true even if it never was (which, obviously... it was true at one point, but whether or not it was true is irrelevant to them; they'd sound like they were regardless).
Have you listened to their ‘90’s music much, dct? I often recommend that period to people who don’t usually like U2 — in a lot of ways I think those records are polar opposites to the traditional U2 aesthetic. It’s the only era of theirs I really like.

Scott and Scott love the shit out of them, yeah. Adam seems personally offended and defensive when Harris even starts to suggest that maybe U2 isn't all that great. It's hilarious.

For the record, I was really thrown for a loop in this thread on the last couple of pages when you guys starting talking about this Harris fellow. My whole perception of how this show works (still having not listened to it) is that it’s just the Scotts (who I previously thought were REM insiders Scott Litt and Scott McCaughey.)

I've heard War, The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum, and Achtung Baby from start to finish several times. I own all of those except TUF.
So... not really. I really like Achtung Baby, as well. That's my second favorite U2 record. It's uneven but the highs are high af. I know the singles from the rest of their catalog but I haven't heard another U2 album since.

Also... where do you guys land on the "U Talkin' U2 To Me" vs "U2 Talkin' U2 To Me" debate?

The Scotts remind me of a friend of mine who is just about to move to Asheville.

It's specifically from the U2 iteration. They call the show U Talkin but at one point someone suggests that it should be U2 Talkin because it's 2 people (Scott and Scott) doing the pod. It becomes kind of hilarious as they debate it. Harris thinks that U2 Talkin is better because more syllables is always funnier. I think I kind of agree.
