-Krusen's five minutes on stage for Alive are the only proof I'll ever need that Matt just doesn't have the right touch for a lot of their older material.
-I shouldn't hate on Ed as much as I do these days. He's clearly a good guy with a big heart who genuinely believes in the power of music to change the world. It's a beautiful thing. I just wish he sang differently now, and wrote music that was less treacly or derivative of their older material.
-Given to Fly was pretty bad, until Ed yelled "yea fuckers!" at which point it became downright embarrassing.
-Betterman was about as good as it's been in the last ten years.
-RITFW sounded pretty great.
"embarrassing" indeed ... and jack irons was in the house so not sure why he didn't play on it ... clearly he is taking enough of his crazy pills these days to play a full drum kit ...

hey did you go to easy street yet for the pop up?
yeah, it was the same pop up they had on Record Store Day, just with some things already sold out
some hard-to-find things on vinyl (Lightning Bolt SEVENS box set, 1st Pressing TEN LP, PJ20 vinyl, 1st pressing Uke Songs LP, lots of side projects LPs), PJ wool baseball jerseys from CHI and BOS shows), other Chicago stuff (pennants), patches, stickers, t-shirts, hoodies, books, one of the 10c vault series sets (I think DC?), random stuff like that.
I'm heading over on Sunday. Any socks?

Hmmm don't recall socks but I may have overlooked them. Mostly it's a bunch of stuff you can get on the website without sacrificing a parent to pay for shipping

Given to Fly is at 28:40
Imagine you have never heard this band before, or seen Eddie Vedder. Or even that you hadn't seen Eddie Vedder since MTV unplugged or something. If you were a fresh viewer basically, whether you dont know them or havent followed them.
What would you think when you get to 29:30 and on?
Its almost physically painful to watch him struggling <_< it hurts MY throat.

Also one thing that really bothers me is when Eddie adds these riffs and changes of the melodies that don't even sound good but he does them forever. For example
"we still give our love he just gives it AAAAAAway"
Ignoring him randomly changing from we to he mid-sentence, I hate how he sings that 'A' in 'Away' up all the time. I wouldnt mind him changing the melody but he cant even sing the melody line hes trying to change to so why even bother?

I dunno guys. I won't hesitate to thrash on the band or a performance when necessary, but was Given To Fly really that bad of a rendition?? I have nothing to compare it to bc I rarely, if ever, listen to live shows. But I honestly didn't think it was that bad?? It was fast as fuck, obviously, but Ed didn't bother me at all in this performance, except for a handful of warbles. If i was tuning in with fresh eyes and not knowing much about PJ at all, I would think, "Man, those old guys kinda rock"

I dunno how you can think that when Eddie can't sing any of the notes and is basically just yelling into the mic trying desperately to hit something close to the pitch

well, obviously, but he's also a 52-year-old man singing a song that was written when he was 32. common sense alone can explain that. i think he held his own here.

Also, this version is probably better than the last few tours. It wasn't great, but not a trainwreck by any means.

Rewatching now and he's not as bad as I remembered. And, I don't think it would've been nearly as rough had Cameron kept the correct pace of the song. Sprinting through this one just doesn't work.
