I think LV is right on the money, and I’ll add:

Joe is not a cynical person, so Murray’s arc may not resonate as much. But I can relate to every single instinct that he has throughout the movie: To eat a bunch of junk food, to fuck every woman in town, to rob the armored car, to punch Ned Ryerson in the face. And when he finally starts doing things to add beauty to the world — to save the old bum’s life, to learn to ice sculpt and play the piano, and finally, to see Andy MacDowell as a real person rather than a receptacle for his sexual desires — only then does he find fulfillment.

I actually got a little teared up typing that out.

I live with some cynicism but i generally am not at all. I fucking love groundhog day.

i heard a nasty rumor once that most whiskey distilleries don't even bottle and sell their own whiskey. I guess it just takes too long to cultivate an original whiskey that most places that pop up bottle and package others and sell it and if they become successful maybe one day actually sell their own .

i think doug is on an Alitalia flight right about now sipping barolo

but from what i know about whiskey, it obv takes a while to age, and distilling liquor is easy to get wrong (impurities - you need really pristine water)

and usually it gets most of its flavor from the barrel it is aged in anyways

and from what i know about most consumers

they are dumb enough to elect a gameshow host president

so the odds of them doing adequate due diligence on source location of their whiskey (or even caring if they knew the truth) is very low

thus making this a viable business model

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Say this was pretty good! Nice to see a heist movie with some brains and a little visual flair; a few of those shots were great. Notably good sound too. Had to make some logic leaps for a few parts to work, but whatever. Also there were like 25 recognizable actors.

In terms of “heist movie maturity,” I’d say it’s not as good as Thief, but way smarter than Oceans 8 and 12. Sort of on the same level as Inside Man.

Groundhog Day is great. I would never argue otherwise. I love that movie.

Fair enough.

For me, though, it was nice to be reminded about the joy of wonder and imagination. Certainly not a profound film, but our brief chat yesterday about Groundhog Day was at the front of my mind. The movie was just what I needed last night.

I'm certainly not going to tell you to see it or talk you into it on any level. It's not worth it for SO many reasons. But did Disney ever have that magic for you? Or have they always just been a garbage company in your estimation?
