I never had the childhood connection to Disney that others did. I loved a handful of their movies (The Fox and the Hound, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Rescuers Down Under), but DISNEY as an entity never meant anything to me, and those aren’t movies I return to now.
Now the only period of Disney I really care about is their weird, dark ‘80s days. Return to Oz and Something Wicked This Way Comes are really special.

Gotcha.
I suppose if the terribleness of the brand gets in your way, it'll be hard to overcome that, especially with no past connection to that whole "Disney magic" thing on any level. That makes sense.

To be clear, my feelings on Disney as a corporate entity have no bearing on my feelings about any of their movies as I watch them (when I actually bother to do so). I try to avoid most simply as an issue of track record, really.

Your previous post read differently to me. Honestly, if you can set all that baggage aside, which I know you do well in general, you still be able to like things about it. Probably not.
But again it wouldn't surprise me.
I also feel like I'm talking this up like it's the best movie of the year. It's not. Let's be clear. By most accounts I should probably be bothered by the movie. There are things I adore about it and it hit me on a specific way that I wasn't expecting. It got me, for sure. Part of that is my own baggage that I wouldn't expect to translate to others.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

You see The Black Cauldron? It’s pretty great
Not since I was a kid. I have really hard time mustering interest for non-stop-motion animated movies as an adult.

That's a book that they could do a film series on instead of "I'm Number Four" or "The 5th Wave" bullcrap.

I liked The Mule a lot. The first 30 minutes are pretty rickety, but it won me over hard afterward. Clint's great in it, and there's some really vulnerable thematic territory he explores near the end. The scenes where he has oddly warm and friendly interactions with cartel guys are some of my favorite stuff I've seen in a while.
