So, lets say I have some money to buy something new. If I bought the nicest turntable ever, would make a rats ass difference if my speakers and receiver aren't equally up to par?

Yes. You have to start your upgrade somewhere. Getting a better quality turntable will increase the life of your vinyls so that when you do upgrade other components you aren't left with crackle poppy vinyls to listen to.

judge my set up
pretty much a novice vinyl collector. 100+ records

Sony turntable, 4 years old
into Pioneer receiver via RCA (4 yrs old, my dvd and comcast run through the same receiver via hdmi)
with Klipsch 1650 in wall speakers (same speakers tv/dvd run through)

i know the turntable is shit. help me understand just how bad the rest of it is?

If you're happy with it, it's great.

So, do I go for a $1,200 table? Or do I go for an $800 table and new speakers? know what I mean?

I'd go for the latter. At the $800 turntable you're probably getting the same needle as the more expensive turntable. I've yet to be convinced outside of the exclusivity of the more expensive turntable that at your $800 price point that you're going to get any sound or vinyl wear and tear difference.

Any table suggestions at that range?

Pro-ject Debut Carbon. That was my most recent update and holy fuck does it sound great. Comes with a really solid cartridge as well.

I have already upgraded to the ortofon 2m cartridge which comes with the Debt Carbon

Anyone have a solid record cleaning ritual/system they recommend? Anyone tried one of those Spin Clean record kits?

I'll give it some thought later on...stay tuned.

Are you really going to listen to any one lp enough to justify spending a huge amount of money on a tt in order to preserve them perfectly? Its not like stereo by pw is coming out anytime soon.

My main reason for getting an expensive TT is not to preserve my vinyl, but rather to have my mind and sex parts blown by how fucking good it sounds. If thats possible.

Maybe it is further back (I'm lazy) in this thread but you guys/gals should post pics of your vinyl collections.

Yes. However my old player for vinyls was an LP-60. So anything I play vinyls on after that is going to make my vinyls sound pretty good by default. So now I play my vinyls on the Pro-ject Debut Carbon, which plays vinyls so well I won't need any other turntable for my vinyls for some time. What I'm trying to say is for me and my vinyls we don't need anything else. Me and my vinyls are good.
