According to Wikipedia (so not gospel by any means), THN was recorded in the late summer of '73, while Homegrown sessions started in June of '74.

Listening now...
Homegrown - this very much in the larger sense feels like the sonic sequel to Harvest, though of course darker and more personal. I really liked this album and didn’t feel the disappointment of others. There are certainly spots here that seem unnecessary, like Florida, but overall I like the sound and places he was going here. I listened to this as its own document and not comparing version to what would later be released.
On first listen, my favorite tracks are Try, Love Is a Rose, Homegrown, We Don’t Smoke It No More, Vacancy, and White Line. I feel like Mexico could belong on this list if he developed it a bit more and not dropped in like a 90 second piano song that ended up feeling like an interlude. I’m all for this though.

It’s like looking at an old Polaroid for this specific time period.

Yeah, I mean if you listen to this expecting his greatest album that just happened to be tucked away for 45 years, that might be a bit of a sad truth. But on its own virtues, it has many strengths. It plays mostly cohesively as well but for his side distraction with weed (though frankly some of my favorite songs here sit there).

After a first listen, i really liked this one guys. I came in with no expectations at all, something thats always helpful with Neil, and its a very cool collection of songs. Its very warm and the vibe is super chill.
I really liked it.

It’s interesting because it is a pinpoint moment in Neil Young’s life that he is focused on and in many ways giving this time and sharing it now actually makes it more powerful of a listening experience and parses it out as something special and not just among a string of really great albums.

This was pretty good. It has always bothered me how many Neil Young songs fade out though, especially with harmonica. Figure out a way to end the song proper I say.

I'm definitely in the SNC/Trag camp on this one -- I listened to it three times today and (except for "Florida," which I listened to about thirty seconds of and then skipped over) it was pure grinning-ear-to-ear delight the whole way through. What a treat to get an almost-entirely-unheard peak era Neil Young album after all these years, full of songs that may not be "better" than what he chose to release instead but certainly fit right in alongside them. "Separate Ways," "Try," "Kansas," "Vacancy," the original "White Line" -- these all proceed straight to the canon.

Someone pointed out to me that "Star Of Bethlehem" is a different mix than the one that came out later. So it would appear that "Love Is A Rose" and "Little Wing" are the only previously released tracks on this album, which is interesting.
