They'll continue to tour Lightning Bolt next year
This only grows more likely with the TOTD tour this year. Between the Fenway/Wrigley shows and rehearsing/preparing for TOTD, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even have one single recording session in 2016.

Or the band writes a bunch of music without Ed and Ed just comes in and does the lyrics. Ten: Part Two.
I think my scenario is more likely.

You gotta think (in theory) the band would want something new to play/promote when taking the nostalgia trip of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.

I think jeff said this year was just for touring. They might have demos on their own, but the band has not booked any kind of session whatsoever.
Maybe next year?

Im exited about SG though.

I had to google this, because I forgot, but LB was dropped in October 2013, so it's been three years next month since a new record.

In 6 months they'll all bring in their individual half assed demos. It's how all great records begin.

for the last ten years, stone has basically been one of those extra guitar players bands bring out with them to add texture to songs live

I doubt Ed would fight Stone for control now if he really wanted it.

I think the Stone thing people are talking about here is an old issue that is done and over. I've brought this up here in the past (w/ some RM mocking of course), but there is pretty good evidence in the book Grunge is Dead where Regan Hagar, once of Stone's very best friends, just rips into Ed and the band for the thing that happened in the mid-90s w/ Brad. It's actually pretty brutal (I assume they've all made up since he works w/ the PJ organization now and probably just needed a job). Basically, the band intervened with Epic and Epic then did not promote the early Brad albums. There's nothing straight from Stone's mouth on all of this except some mild politicking in the book), but we also know he wasn't exactly thrilled w/ the Vitalogy/No Code era, or w/ Binaural era either and this was also when he was really invested in Brad as his outlet and where he may have felt more of being a leader. I think those were the lean years when he was "checked out". I think in this current era starting about 10 years ago and on, he's been much more involved and motivated in the band then he was from 94-00.

The big revelation to me on the whole PJ20 thing was just how close Ed and Jeff are. It is their vision of the band that prevailed, the whole DIY, fan club, rarities, changing setlists, that aspect is I believe Ed and Jeff's vision, w/ Mike jumping on board. I don't think that's very much Stone's deal. Stone is more of the world-conquering let's be U2 or Coldplay vision and have one monster radio hit after another. He's said more recently he's been pleasantly surprised by how things have turned out, success-wise, for the band now. So, with them being stadium and festival headliners and such I think he's come around to thinking maybe everything worked out the way it was supposed to, even if he wasn't down with it at the time.

I think there's a story to be told some day (maybe PJ40?) that may go into all of this, I would think that would be a very interesting thing to see. Just my personal read on it.

That's interesting stuff and some cool insight. I think Jeff is still very much into the band, so I don't agree w/ that. But it's a band, people ebb and flow. And he's extremely involved on a micromanagement level, so he probably just needs breaks like anyone. I mean, yeah people check in and out. But hasn't that always been the case? Wasn't Jeff TOTALLY checked out of No Code? But we all love that. Mike was checked out during his rehab stints. I think it just changes album to album, and they are mature enough to accept that in the long road things work out. I think they're happy they have stuck with it and I think they look forward to what comes next based on the ebbs and flows of the past. They strike mas pretty mature guys, as opposed to the Ramones or Metallica or something.

On the Stone riffs, it's also a matter of what gets selected. Who knows what sort of ideas never got traction b/c of one reason or another. Bands are difficult things. In today's music world, especially in hip hop, very few want to deal w/ the volatility of any band situation, if even for a short while. I find bands to be very worthwhile, seeing different visions come and go. People here can get caught in the whole moneygrab vs indie vision, or who's checked in or out, but it's always been this way, from Day 1. It's just how bands are, a mess of contradictions and personalities, and ups and downs. I love it.
