I'm way less excited about these proposed stand-alone films. I totally get why they're making them and I don't think it impossible for them to be fun or even really fantastic films. But I just don't care about exploring more of Boba Fett or Han as a tween or even Yoda, if Yoda is the central protagonist. These seems way less fruitful than Ep 7-9.McParadigm wrote:A bridge is a good metaphor for what the first movie ought to be, yeah. And JJ is a good director for just such a thing.
All these "we'll have a Boba Fett movie" ideas bouncing around seem to suggest that it'll be a long and crowded bridge, though. Plus, I'd wager that a perfectly adequate and financially successful movie will get held up as the new gold standard by execs, rather than being treated as the first step towards something more.
and he qualifies it by saying he liked a clone wars episode where soldiers had to deal with being sent to slaughter. go watch the pacific on hbo or something if that's what you're after.Strat wrote:spike wrote:wait, people are getting upset because there might be a darth vader flashback in the movie? it's darth fucking vader, one of the greatest movie villains ever; star wars is pretty lame without him.

Gareth Edwards is directing the Boba Fett movie. That's all I care about.durdencommatyler wrote:I'm way less excited about these proposed stand-alone films. I'm sure that's their hope. We'll see. But there's a much higher likelihood that I'll want more stories beyond the known timeline. My interest in the Sith War and the Old Republic will dramatically increase if 7-9 are good.stip wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:I'm way less excited about these proposed stand-alone films. Exactly. But if 7-9 are really good then suddenly you might care a lot more about them.
But that's probably why I'm less anxious for more Empire/Skywalker stuff. Ultimately, I agree with your argument. I'm going to give Ep 7 all of the benefit of the doubt. But it's precisely the icy letdown of the prequels that makes me want to see a new story, see new characters and conflicts.stip wrote:I had interest after the original trilogy, but the prequels were an ice bath for me.
new stories have to at least tie in a bit to the old ones for continuity. i don't see what the big deal over flashbacks is.stip wrote:It's had the opposite effect on me. I need the primary story to make me care about the universe again.
Thanks!stip wrote:I'm re-listening to your playlist right now. You quietly drafted a pretty great team
I haven't seen/read/heard anyone making a big deal out of the (rumored) flashbacks. If that's happening, then yes, that's silly.spike wrote:new stories have to at least tie in a bit to the old ones for continuity. i don't see what the big deal over flashbacks is.stip wrote:It's had the opposite effect on me.
