Man, you sure are a little bipolar.
Most likely, just not diagnosed.
Cheer up! this is going to be a great album!
I know, you are just overwhelmed by the illusory futility of everything. I mean, who cares, right? It´s only music. But we care, goddammit! We are passionate people in an unpassionate world!

But well, OK, why don't they choose Stone? He has a recording studio. Jeff is doing the artwork anyway, they can hire video producers if they want. Kapow! Lightning Bolt.
I feel like they don't enjoy making music with each other as much. I dunno why. Hence why being able to do what they like has translated into not much really. Or well, didn't Bo'B say in one of the many interviews that they don't record together that often? We never really hear 'oh this is a song me and stone wrote one day when we we're hanging out and goofing round'. It's probably the family stuff really, can't begrudge them for that.

People work full work weeks and still have plenty of time for their families. These guys recorded about 6 total weeks in 5 years. They just don't have great chemistry anymore as songwriters.

:(True. 6 weeks in 5 years says they're not really trying to get some chemistry going either.

And this, more than the songs themselves, makes me think look, announce a hiatus or just give up, rather than doing this.

6 weeks making a record but probably 50 weeks of touring. I wish it was the other way round.

Thing is, for years now I've been looking for reasons why I might be wrong but haven't found any. If anyone would like to put some forward, I'm all eyes.

I think maybe your problem with it, and mine too, is that this feels like a Brendan O'Brien record, not Pearl Jam. I blame it on BoB doing all the interviews and the band saying nothing. But everything I hear, I think "Oh that's Brendan. Oh I'm sure Brendan did that. I bet Brendan came up with that"

I'm probably wrong about that, but it's just the way it feels.

I think the "fixing" of songs, yet still being friends, can be explained by the fact that they just don't have time in the studio to jam and cook the songs. That's for young people. They just have ideas, and BO'B says "That one, that one, that one", and puts them into an electrical gadget then says "Play!" The word "Efficiency" was used a lot during Backspacer. Do other bands use words like that? Or do they go in and jam it out till it's done? Jamming *may* be for young people, but it's also for people with divergent styles who want to make a unified, consistent showcase of a band's best music.

So does Jeff! I'm pretty sure he said he hates it and wish they'd record more.

I'm sure a large part of this has to do with how awful everyone is at interviews. We'd never really know if they were super excited/inspired because they mostly give the same interview.

Did they do this when they were awesome? Remain so poker-faced and business-like about everything for the press?

I think the band just don't really enjoy interviews that much (and honestly, who would?). Apart from the listening parties, Brendan hasn't been that involved in the promotional stuff.

Harmless: I don't know what to suggest other than, I don't know, perhaps stop thinking about Pearl Jam for a bit? None of this really matters.

Nah, I think it's okay to obsess about PJ in the months before an album release. A couple months after it's out and we see them on tour, we'll all go back to not thinking abut them at all for another five years . . . . .

Yes, unless you go far back enough to when ed was over-emotional and oversharing and wouldn't know a poker face if it walked up to him and bought him dinner.

If I knew they'd said "Uh Brendan, uh... fuck it, OK, make us famous", it would be pretty cool.
