Thought exercise: Would you support Trump if his politics were the exact opposite? If environmental stewardship, Medicare for All, reparations, legal pot, and all the other far left talking points were on his agenda, would you put up with his constant media gaffes, obnoxious behavior, and general lack of interpersonal skills?

Absolutely not. That's what I dont get about republicans. I really assume they would be able to get much more items checked off their adgenda if Trump weren't president.

Agreed. No way, no how.

Bad people assume their critics are only critical because they're not in a position to be bad themselves, and would be given the chance.

Yup. And there’s a reason that this administration has been caught doing so many of the exact things they have (often falsely) accused Democrats of doing. Those weren’t disingenuous attacks. They just assumed that the other side was doing it because they would.

It’s like a Roomba with broken sensors is President, and half the government is too scared of it to get down off the table and shut it off

it's funny because when it comes to War, it seems like Trump is in practice a pacisfist and wants to pull troops from everywhere (and the left gives him no credit). he obviously talks a lot of shit - but he doesn't back it up with anything. I've wondered if it were President Ralph Nader pulling out of Syria what the progressive media response would be like.
of course, Ralph would probably pull out and leave some kind of brokered peace in place
which would inevitably fail within a few years
but nonetheless, it probably wouldn't be a complete fleeing-of-the-scene
because, you know, he is a grown-up

The media would call Nader a Russian agent like they call Tulsi.
The Left's position on war/intervention/whatever seems discouragingly muddled right now. Or the DNC seems hellbent on downplaying it because it doesn't provide much ammo against Trump (and far too many are in the grip of anti-Russian hysteria). The real anti-war left seems sidelined at the moment, though I'm sure they are still there.

they seem confused at what to do. Trump may have waged less war than Obama. But they are so obsessed with despising him they can't congratulate him for being such a stubborn f*ck that he will actually say 'no' to the neocons when it comes to escalating war in the middle east

I don't know if I can give credit to Trump for being anti-war when he seems happy to support Saudi Arabia in their war with Yemen, but its clear that he (or his insanity) is a huge problem for neocons, and that's pretty great.
