He's done well here. And the artwork has some religious imagery. Pj sometimes need a battle or something to pitch to. And they're best and worst work often results. Hopefully this is a theme or lode running through the whole record.

I'm more into the atmospheric stuff which they don't do enough of, sleight of hand, strangest tribe, and that other song in the new tour video.
Hope there's more of this explored on this one. Im rather doubtful though

Also, one of those lines seems to echo back to severed hand

I can also hear touches of SH&Marker in MYM.
Might be just me though.

The clip of Mind Your Manners was nothing like I expected. And the actual song, when we got it, was again not what I expected (although more so, because I'd expected punk originally). So the most we can say is that atmospheric part on the video might not be what we're expecting either.

Good point. I need to listen to it again, bit it couldn't really be anything else, could it?
A protracted intro to a song? I don't see how. But it may well be like a centrepiece or a breather between sides?

That's what I was hoping for as well but yeah. I'm fine with what we got. Another half-temp section would've been good.

I'm not often into Pearl Jam's 'punkish' attempts at song. With that said, its probably why I dig this tune so much. It isn't punk! I'm sure I'll get the liner notes and see that Ed wrote it or something, but it sounds like good ol Mikey bringing home some of his metal influences. Even how Eddie finishes off his verses (versus?) sounds metal to me.

Bah what do I know other than I love the song and can't wait to hear it live. Think they are going to pull this off.

Well, the intro to MYM is half-time, and it suddenly doubles up and goes all Black Flag on us, which none of us was expecting. So yes, I'm saying that the intro (if that's what it is) could be a million other things.

I find it to be punk, but I also hear the 80s hair metal Guns-n-Roses thrash arguments as well.

Also, two things I noticed which are quite nice:

1) The intro has some of that Matt off-kilter timing, as (if I can work it out), the snare hits the first beat of the bar / riff on the first couple of bars before the riff properly kicks in.

2) I'd said I wish this half-time section had been repeated on the end. Well, although it isn't rhythmically (it's fast and punky at the end), it is on the second guitar. Under the 'Go to Heaven!' bit, Mike (?) is playing the same 'Knight Rider' type palm muted thing on the outro as he had in the intro. So there's that bookend thing happening. Just a tiny thing that I noticed, which improves the song structurally for me.

Yeah, there's a nice little bookendy thing going on with the part at the top. At least it doesn't feel completely disconnected from the rest of the song.

it's not an album so there may not be anything out there, but have people seen any reviews for the song?

I think this is the first PJ song ever, about which I've thought AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION WOULD BE FUN!

The "MIND YOUR MANNERS!" gaps would be fun to shout out.

And the "Go to heaven! That's swell! How d'you like your living hell?!" bit would be great fun as well.

Basically, I guess the audience participation thing can be fun if the rest of the song doesn't suck. Lesson learned.

A major moment in terms of my appreciation for this song (yes, it's been a day but it's been a lot of listens) was when I stopped expecting it to be fierce and embraced its snarky design.

All that may be true but we're all gonna be long tired of this before we any of us hear the record or hear it live.
