it seems weird to say both "the slap didn't overshadow everything" and "it's a shame the slap overshadowed everything"

I like the guy, but I don't know. I haven't heard anyone say that. He's probably heard people say it.

but, in as much as he did highlight and draw attention to the "good bits", I agree with him; lots of good film-related things happened; I just wonder why more people aren't pissed off that Chris Rock distracted from it by insulting a woman

that sounds like restraint from Chris, I respect that

It makes sense that he's still processing it. I'm sure it dredged up a lot of trauma considering what he's talked about in the past

traumatised bullies are still bullies; I'm sure all three people involved in the altercation have similar traumas to speak about

that said, yes, I'm glad he's thinking carefully about how to go forward
