Ive always loved the design! But considering I upgraded my TT with the same cartridge...maybe im good on TT for awhile and should jsut pay some money to get my vintage marantz refurbished.

It has a phono pre-amp. I dont need that because my receiver has a phono input. Which it is connected to. I look on the back of my TT and the switch is on "phono" instead of "line". This leads me to believe it is utilizing the built in phono pre-amp on the TT rather than direct phono receiver. Which seems counterintuitive. And ive heard most receivers have a better phono pre amp than the built in phono on the TT.

I switch it to "line" and the sound is unlistenable and distorted. So....?

i'm going to be forced to bring back my 'the plural of vinyl is vinyl' signature, aren't i?

For nicer tables you'll have to buy a pre-amp for between the turntable and your receiver unless your receiver can also work as an pre-amp (mine can't). They're not terribly expensive but it is one more thing you have to buy.

It's marked unclearly. With the switch set to line you're telling the turntable you're plugging it into a line level input on the receiver and therefor need some amplification. When it set on phono you're telling it you're plugging into a phono level input on the receiver end and don't need the amplification. So when you switch it to line and plug it into phono you're overmodulating the shit out of it.

If I'm understand it correctly, if you kept the switch set to phono and plugged it into a line level input on your receiver you'd barely be able to hear it, if you could hear it at all.

I thought it was a little wacky. Ive got it oh phono on the TT and plugged into the Phono inputs on the receiver.

for you one or two other vinyl me, please folks in here- just got a notice that their j dilla donuts pressing had some issues, which they found out after about half had been shipped (but before the pressing run was complete). there is a 'whoosh' sound on the first two tracks of side a. for those that have already been shipped, they will be sending the replacement disc next month. for those that haven't, there;s going to be a week or so delay.

they've had a rough few months here.
