This was good. Best of the 2018 Oscar movies so far, with only three left.

I’ll be here when you come back to say this was the best of the lot.
It really was though.
Ummmm... no. Not even close.

Die Hard is an absolutely perfect movie. Seriously, it’s flawless. Absolute mastery of every element of the form. There is no way it can be improved whatsoever. God bless John McTiernan. And Jan de Bont. And Michael Kamen. And Frank Uriosite. And Bruce Willis. And Alan Rickman. And Steven de Souza. God bless them, every one.

I thought it was a really well told story. Emotional and true. Something that everyone can relate to. With only Get Out and Lady Bird left, it has a good shot.

Wait, wasn’t The Post in there too? That’s by far the best. Get Out is a distant second.

I’ve got The Post on third so far, after The Darkest Hour and Call Me By Your Name. All good movies.

Reading up on some horror films on Wikipedia and found this one mentioned: Funny Games. The plot sounds pretty wild and I see there are two versions...anyone seen either the OG or American remake?

Seen ‘em both. They’re shot-for-shot identical except for the language spoken. I’m not a fan, but I think Jorge loves them

But this is where not only personal experience comes in but a shared human experience.
Call me by your name is far more relatable (for me) than any of the others. Certainly more than the fish porn movie or whatever get out was.
I’m still not sure what get out was. I don’t think that film knew what it was either.
It never felt like it even belonged in that category to be nominated. It was like Pineapple Express but with an agenda.

Hrm.

I've been trying to get back into horror so I'm going to start with some classics from the 80s and work my way through to today.

I would absolutely not say that I loved Funny Games. The ending just really freaked me out when I watched it.

The avant-garde dreaminess left me unsure of what was going on...I couldn't tell if it was being pretentious...then I started to wonder if this was in the High Plains Drifter vein or a dying mans dream....then it all it started to make a little more sense to me. The scene in the club shocked me in its violence. Marvin was like a shark. Angie Dickinson was impossibly sexy. It left me thinking that's for sure.

I find it deeply existential and contemplative. It's like a crime/revenge movie reduced to an elemental form - a lone, wronged man propelled into oblivion by a trivial sum of money.

I literally just ordered this movie. It's based on The Hunter by Richard Stark and I'm a huge fan.
