The only positive of this approach may be that the album isn't completely stuffed with Ed's songs, the greatest flaw of every latter day Pearl Jam record.

Sounds like something id come up with at 2 am after the bar. DUMB BAR ROCK

i actually enjoyed that song as it was one of the few on LB that actually sounded like guitar instruments and was hopeful they would add a searing swamp blues rock guitar solo on it at the end

but they didnt when they played it live

Even Stone has said he's been surprised about which songs of his that Ed ends up selecting to put on the records, like Buckle Up.

Again, I'm leaning towards Ed being the problem here (to some extent).

‘You can’t bring your own gear’ just sounds like the guy wants to pull the exact same sounds in the same way for each of his production jobs, like cueing up a ‘rock guitar’ preset.

What’s he gonna do, make them play Jackson guitars through Crate amps? They’re probably just gonna gravitate to the same instruments they have at home.
