Anyone else hear a musical nod to “I Can See For Miles” in the La da da & more so the “She was a stunner / and I am stunned” parts? Enjoying the variety of influences I’m hearing in these two singles: The Who, Blondie, the Stones, the Kinks, Van Halen, The Breeders, Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel.

This one has grown on me. It's a decent, fun, rock track. The production is fantastic.

My initial reaction was WFT is this mess...but wow there are great moments. A handful of listens later and it all comes together somehow, the way Pearl Jam songs used to way back when. This one is obviously going to work live. Bring on Gigaton.

Yes, this is definitely a grower. Too much going on in the song to figure out in the first few listens. It gets better and better over time. Not near top tier Pearl Jam but good stuff. Still hoping that the other rockers are stylistically not similar to this though. Something more slower building, deliberate, less wordy and with more obvious hooks is usually what constitutes top tier PJ rockers for me.

Johnny Guitar: 3*. Nothing extraordinary, but has some interesting parts. Could be 2.5*.
Gonna See My Friend: 3*. It fits perfectly as an opener for Backspacer. I'm absolutely ok with GSMF.
Big Wave: 2.5*. Eddie does love waves.
Comatose: 2.5*. Generic punk from PJ = 2.5*.
MYM: 2.5*. See Comatose.
SBWM: 2.5*. Probably a little bit better than the previous 3, but not what I want to hear from PJ. Catchy and boring at the same time. It's the worst single they've ever put out (with MYM).
Hitchhiker: 2*. Not bad if we consider the fact that it's a b-side.
Get Right: 2*. Inoffensive. I like Jeff bassline.
Supersonic: 2*. Younger sister of SBWM.
Olé: 0*. They went and played this on a big TV show and acted like they were having the time of their lifes. I stil can't believe it.
Can't deny me: 0*. An absolute shame.

Listened to it again a couple of times. For as much as I don't like the vocals, I like that the opening line is the title of the song, just thrown right in your face. Kudos for that, it at least tells us what we're getting right up front.

I still hate the intro. The drum intro is so unnecessary and then the weak guitar riff right out front with no low end or vocals....i think thats what i originally was turned off about with the song. When the bass kicks in and the rest of the band...along with the vocal melodies....thats when it all begins to feel right.

But man that first 10 seconds or so....

yeah it’s rough- especially when the second iteration of that is so much better. There is a cool layering moment in eddie’s vocal (a deeper accompaniment ) that i like, though

having just discovered this forum, i've spent an unjustifiable amount of time the last few days reading this thread, and others because, seemingly, like many of you, i'm in full geek mode over the possibility of a truly inspired album from pj. it has been a while. first, i must say, many of you are fucking hilarious. Truly, hilarious. i'm all giggles reading these threads. Second, and with regard to SBWM and Gigaton in general, i'm hopeful and happy. to register a platitude some will flame but all believe deep down, it is remarkable that PJ remain intact and creating. really, remarkable. there is so much pain and hurt and suffering in the world (another platitude) and all around us. to quote mat kearny, we're all one phone call away from our knees. having an affinity for this band, scrutinizing the tiniest details of each new release, and hashing it out with a group of people who share the same affinity is a blessing, and it's really cool to. like many of you presumably, PJ owns the rights to several entries on the sound track of my life. i'm grateful for them (that's the third platitude). by the by, SBWM gave me the LOLz the first time i heard it through my iphone speakers at 5:30 am the other day. now i've played the gd thing 50 times and in love. rock on pj.

I know it's an incredibly straightforward drum beat (and sounds like Undone) and the first riff is also really simple, but I like how it starts with just a solid beat before it comes crashing in. I dunno, it does it for me. I feel a lot of excited anticipation in those first twenty seconds.

the drum beat promises more than the fairly flat musical intro, is my issue. it ends up feeling deflating. if you jumped right from the drums to the first verse (i can hear you...) it works much better i bet

someone do that and post it, please!

SBWM is pretty easily better than any of the Spritzy Punkers™ that have been thrown around as comparisons. I'm sticking with a 3, but it's done nothing but grow on me.
