Yes it is
This is still the biggest grower of the album for me other than "Infallible."

Infallible took a listen or two to fall in love with, but lightning bolt took quite a while, but its up near the top now for sure

This is my most hated fade in the history of fades

Life wasted is pretty bad, but lightning bolt is a much better song, so that makes it easy to agree with you

Plus we at least got most of life wasted, and have the rough mix

Pearl Jam sucks at fade outs. In addition to the two y'all are talking about (LB and LW), Rival's pisses me off too. I'd love for that song to go on about another 20 seconds or so.

I don't understand the thought process behind fade outs, they seem to always be bad

Yeah, it's a tough call. I used to be completely anti-fade out. I have come around a bit, but most of the time the really bother me. Like right when the band seems to be getting into a cool groove / jam, fade out. I guess on the flip-side, a cold / hard ending doesn't always fit either, so in that case, a fade may be more appropriate.

I think I like how rival ends. The evil carnival should fade into your imagination pretty quickly

I love a cold, hard ending.

Fades can be appropriate, but only after you finish your thought.

What are the best endings in the catalog?

Rearviewmirror jumps to mind for me. Last Exit too. I actually really love way the organ lingers and there are those stray notes on guitar being picked out seemingly randomly at the end of Better Man too.

those are two excellent choices. the way eddie soars off in the distance at the end of alive is pretty marvelous.

I like the little disgusted growl right at the end of Comatose.

The little gasp right before the cold stop at the end of The End is pretty nice

The way FoN takes the shine off the uplifting final moments of the song

I love that unexpected burst of an outro that they tacked onto the end of Blood.

So choice.

I'm a big fan of the unexpected-switch-to-minor-chord-followed-by-cascading-delay-munch ending to Leatherman.

Now THAT is an excellent pick. It's like the last few seconds almost betray the rest of the song, but it absolutely works.

The "shades go down" crawl to the close on Daughter is nice, too.

Daughter is a fade out, right?

god help me I'm going to go listen to leatherman for the ending. I don't know the last time I heard that song from start to finish
