This macho "controversy" over Daniel Murphy taking time off to be with his wife and newborn baby is ridiculous.

This is baseball, there are 162 games. I can understand a guy taking 2 games off in Football would be an issue, but seriously, baseball players miss 2 weeks for sneezing in the dugout and pulling a muscle.

This is the stupidest controversy ever and it only goes to show that Murphy absolutely has his priorities in the right place.

Fans don't give a shit about you, the media only cares about gainful employment and pounding out shitty articles and vapid opinions.

Your family is what is important in life. Sports teams are a hobby or a job. Your child is a lot more important than playing baseball in April. Now, some planning would be good, like not having a baby during the latter stages of a pennant race or the playoffs but seriously, this is nonsensical. Unless people will die if you aren't at work, it's a good thing to spend time helping out your wife with a new baby.

Murphy wasn't going to play all 162 games anyway. We're talking about 1.23% of the season. Plus, it's April baseball, not September playoff race baseball. Give him a break.

At least him and his wife TRIED to have the kid come out before the season started... (kid just wanted to be an opening day baby) Its far better than the ones who are in the playoffs with "his wife is about to go into labor at any moment" lol

And if he's considering surgery on it, he should probably do it soon so we can get him back by All-Star break or sooner.

I really dont know what to make of this? did he really do nothing during his whole break? didnt pick up a bat at all so he thought it healed? why wouldnt you test it to make sure its healing? you take hundreds more swings in spring, but NOW it bothers you? It's not a cry baby excuse. People forget that he put up MVP caliber numbers in the 2012 season and that was with the MLB putting a microscope over him. The thumb didn't start bothering him until 2013, and he still hit 14 homers. I just read that it was bothering him in the Cactus League this Spring, but he hit a couple homers there as well. What I'm saying is, PEDs are not what makes the man great, so let's get that out of the way.

the hit by pitch against the Pirates that made him miss 2 games, the "stiff neck" that knocked him out of a few games only to have that big pinch hit home run against the Marlins. He makes these "little" injuries sound like they could send him to the disable list for a month, but if i sit out a game ill be good to go. If youre only sitting out a game? Its probably not a major injury, and guys like, oh, Prince? or Yount, would have been out there, AND theyd have never disclosed that theyre even playing hurt. Going 0-5 and saying "its my thumb" is not going to win over any fan support after last year. Thats all Im saying.

He was clearly in the way of the plate, but it was in the act of catching the ball? but if the runner would have slid hard hed have probably broken his own legs as the catcher was clearly in his way, yet the runner cant run him over anymore?
