while that certainly would be kind of them, no, only the replacement A/B disc will be shipped free of charge (which begs the question 'why wouldn't it be?'). i can see why it might be read the other way though:

I never responded to your "what part of the system do I invest in question", but my answer would've been speakers. However, it should be a proportional factor of the quality of the other parts in the chain. Obviously you don't put a $1K cartridge on your Pro-Ject TT, just like you don't put $2K down on speakers if you're running a Radio Shack stereo. The biggest "bang for your buck" upgrade for me was my Bowers & Wilkins speakers which I bought 2nd hand through CL. Upgrading the cart on my TT is up there, but there are probably diminishing returns on that unless you've got a ridiculously high-end table and phono preamp. The nice thing about the speakers it that you can invest in them and be happy for years. They don't wear out, they usually don't break, and technology doesn't change that much.

If you can get your Marantz receiver working, with your Pro-Ject table and some speakers between $500-$750 then you'll be setup well for the future. Speakers in that range should be transparent enough for table upgrades or another amp/receiver. Oh, and don't be swayed by big floorstanders like those PSBs, many audiophiles will tell you that you get the best clarity and dynamics from bookshelf speakers (on stands). I'm listening to the Original Release Series pressing of "Harvest" right now and--goddamn--it's like hearing the record for the first time. The only one in the series I don't have is ATGR, and I'm going to buy it right this second.

The moment the needle dropped on that pressing of Harvest I reached for my original copy and put it in the "records to sell" pile.
