Was this post supposed to be about Crosby or Giroux? I know it says Crosby, but you could have been describing either. Actually, you could have been describing the majority of star players in the NHL.

that was some scary shit w/ peverly. its one thing to see someone go down on the ice, but a dude having a heart attack on the bench has to be fucked up. remember when the rangers prospect died in the khl? i think jagr was right next to him.

Why is a guy Phaneuf's size leaving his feet?

Are you appreciating yet what an improvement Bernier is over Reimer? Bernier is a keeper.

That part is weird too. Phaneuf's hits are almost always clean. He walks the line sometimes, but you rarely ever seem him leave his feet... except against his own teammates, apparently.

Bernier has been outstanding this year. He has to be in the conversation for the Vezina. Oddly enough, his numbers are very similar to what Reimer did last year, albeit over a much larger sample with a heavier workload. It's funny because I think of Reimer as really struggling lately and on the season as a whole, but his .911 SV% is among the best the Leafs have seen since Belfour/Joseph. Ugh. Reimer's a good goalie, but Bernier is among the best in the league.

The new elite goalie save % seems to be .925. I believe .913 is the league average. Reimer, even at his best never looked as in control of his game and rebounds as Bernier.

Vezina this year is really only between two goalies, Bishop and Rask with Rask being the eventual winner. An argument could be made for any of the following as the third goalie for consideration; Price, Varlamov and Bernier. Harding, Scrivens, Quick and Schneider won't have played 50 games, so I would rule them out.

A first round series of Montreal vs Toronto will be amazing.

Reimer never looked as in control, but neither did Curtis Joseph or Tim Thomas or Dominik Hasek. Obviously those are extreme examples, but you get the idea... Reimer got the job done, even if he didn't look great doing it. For the record, he had a .924 save percentage last year. I'm not arguing that Bernier and Reimer are close anymore... I just think Reimer is still a very good goalie.

As for the Vezina, I agree, but I think Bishop should win. Bernier's save percentage is tied with Rask right now.

A Colorado/Chicago 1st round series would be very exciting.

Varlamov has been unreal this year.

So, uh... things sure have changed in the last couple weeks, haven't they? People can say whatever they want about Phil Kessel and leadership and core players: Kessel is perfectly capable of throwing this team on his back and dominating game after game. 14 points in the last 7 games and he's been the best player on either team each game.
Have the Leafs done the west coast roadtrip yet? I think that's the measuring stick to use. Colorado was off last night but good game by the Leafs. I think a successful year for the Leafs will be winning one round of the playoffs. Have Leaf fans finally figured out that Bernier is a big step up from Reimer? I can see Bernier being a top 10 goalie next year once he gets a touch more consistent.
Well there it is... 2-1 against the California teams this week, beating the slumping Ducks (who are struggling, but still sit second in the NHL), losing to the Sharks (the Leafs failed to show up for that one... awful game) and beating the Kings (to end their eight game winning streak). Reimer completely stole the game last night with 31 save on 31 shots after Bernier left the game with an injury.
