I had hoped my foot was better because it didn't hurt at all while i was running last night, but it is hurting again this morning. I need to try the elliptical machine instead to see if the lower impact helps

I think I have patellar tendonitis in my left knee. It showed up dec 26 and the knee has generally been sore going up and down stairs and jogging since then. Its not very noticeable when I walk. I ran a 5k New Years eve and finished tenth. What was interesting was the discomfort didn't bother me during the run.
It feels a little better but I feel terrible not running. Does anyone have some advice or experience with this sort of thing? I was thinking I could stay off it another few weeks but then I might go insane...

Worked on chest, abs and arms today, then followed it up with the elliptical for the first time which i struggled with, i did manage to do a mile on it but it took about 14 and a half minutes, and i never really felt comfortable on it. It was easier on my foot, but i think i will try to run again Monday and see how it goes.

I did make it to the gym yesterday after sleeping in Saturday. I didn't think I did anything special but I'm sure feeling it in my legs today.

Strong chest session early this morning in the predictably busy January period. Felt pretty nauseous due to a lack of breakfast which I can't keep skipping.
Legs tomorrow.

Quick 45 minutes of weights, mostly upper body. No cardio as I didn't want to work up a sweat & then head out in 14 degree cold. Off day tomorrow then back at it Wednesday.
Not too crowded at the gym; I'm sure the temps had something to do with that. Similiar day tomorrow wise but by Wednesday things start getting back to normal & I would expect a packed house then.

I only ran tonight, went 2.8 miles in 27:50 and am a bit upset i didn't go the last little bit to get to 3 miles, it was less then 2 minutes. Probably for the best though, i was struggling and when i slowed for a bit of a cool down walk i noticed my foot was hurting again

, i guess i need to stick to the elliptical for a week or so

Pretty tough leg session. Managed to increase my squat PB to 85kg for 4 reps which was very pleasing. A couple of super sets on leg press then leg extension, finishing off with walking lunges.
Hoping that these leg sessions will serve me in good stead before the upcoming half marathon season.

stretching: what do you guys usually do? i spend at least 5 minutes stretching my core before and after i do a weight workout. running is a little different, i stretch pretty good before, but when im done im usually too tired to get another good stretch in.
any tips you guys have for becoming more flexible? i noticed im not nearly as flexible since putting on weight a few years ago lifting. obviously losing weight will help, but i really only wanna lose like 10 lbs at the most.

I'm not a big believer in stretching before runs. I will do a little if I'm putting in a lot of miles, as my Achilles tend to get mad at me when I hit 100 miles a week or so.

Same. I'll only stretch muscles that feel tight after warming up. Same deal after a workout, but only after waiting about 30 minutes after the workout.
Want to be more flexible? Do some Pilates and/or yoga. These will also help strengthen your core.

i havent really put on much muscle so far, but i am noticing a lack of flexibility as well, im really needing to do some beginning yoga classes i think, but as far as before or after a workout, im terrible about not stretching at all, if im lifting i might fo some really minor stretches between sets as the muscles tighten up, and when running i just get on the treadmill and go right to the speed i wanna run, no warm up or stretching. im sure that is why i end up with foot issues

Yeah, I think a warm up is pretty important - especially with running. But foot issues could be caused by other problems as well, like footwear, and running style. What kind of foot issues are you having?

last week i thought i might have broken a bone in the arch area of my foot, it started bothering me the day after i had to kinda stomp on somehting a few times to get it to move and then i ran 3 miles that night, by the end of the next day i was having trouble walking. i ended up taking a few days off from running and it seemed to be better so i did a fast mile last friday and work up with it hurting again though not as bad, and after a couple of more days not running it started bothering me right as i started a cool down walk after i ran 2.8 last night. i havent had anywhere near the pain i did at first, but im gonna try to get the rest of my cardio this week in by using the elliptical machines so i dont have the impact on my foot then try again next monday. i think im a pretty heavy footed runner, and i at about 212 lbs right now as well so running might always be a bit tough on my feet, but i really think this goes back to the stomping i had to do last monday at work.

Probably plantar fasciitis, doc. Most people get it on the heel, but I actually get it more on the arch. The "stomping" probably inflamed it. Stretch it out with a towel while watching TV or something.

It's possible. I get this too, mainly on the heel so I've got some stupidly expensive orthotics that do the job really well, but I don't wear them running (too bulky) - but I have no issues as long as I have decent runners with support.
The towel trick is good. Also, a frozen water filled bottle is good to roll back and forth under the arch.
It couldn't hurt to get your foot checked out, in case it was due to the stomping.
