Wights aren't supposed to be skeletons as there is supposed to be flesh on the dead they raise, but the show doesn't care

Also, how come the dead army seem to be averse to water, yet they popped out of the water and busted through the ice with the whole Bran finale last year?

My guess and I'm not spoilering this because it's not based on any book info is that perhaps they can't swim. I'm looking at like Pirates of the Carribbean walking on the sea floor situation

the night king seemed pretty confident after that skirmish. i suppose he figured he just "recruited" a few thousand troops, and he'll get around to wiping out the crows eventually. what's the rush?

Yeah, this. That scene read very much to me like a choice not to pursue. They decimated the Wildling camp and added a few hundred soldiers. This was a chess move. They aren't trying to win anything yet.
