Please no. Someone mentioned NAIS and Lanegans bleeding muddy water. Though that came from the listening parties. Maybe its all those things
Yes I'm hoping more for the NAIS/Bleeding Muddy Water result, that would be fucking awesome.

Maybe they all agreed on what should be on the album, and they are all happy with the final result. And maybe, after 23 years in the biz, they are not so naive as to blindly follow the producers every recommendation.

Ladies and gentlemen, no matter how you feel about these songs, this is Pearl Jam.
I don't think they're blindly following anything, but I do think they're not interested in defying his decisions and ideas at the moment because they're not that interested in being a recording band.
Then why record anything at all?
Bread and butter, fan and media expectations, fun.
I can't imagine them recording an entire album..just to record it. This isn't a christmas single.
Cool, I wish I felt the same. I'm not saying the new songs aren't of a good quality (some of them are about Christmas Single quality), but nothing after Riot Act can compare to it or anything before it because the dynamic and aims of the band totally shifted at that point. It's my opinion, man.
I'm not trying to change your mind at all. But if you want Riot Act, it's probably at your local record store with the rest of the albums that are approaching 20 years old.
The "We still have the old albums" excuse. I like the new stuff. I would just like to be loving new stuff which sounded as passionately and intelligently crafted as Riot Act-level work. I have great old stuff, I would just rather be getting *great* new stuff. I'm very sorry that you're not happy with my opinion, but that's why it's not yours.

this isn't as passionately and intelligently crafted as Riot Act level work. It's better :)

liebzz wrote:I didn't mean to start a fight. I was just more or less putting it out there that some may be trying to ascribe some sort of apathy in the band where to me, they sound just as passionate in these songs as they have generally been. It's just a different vibe because they are in a different place now than they were when Riot Act or Yield or Ten or Vitalogy came out. I am not sure it's fair to simply brush it off as secondary in their eyes because you feel it's secondary in your eyes. From the songs themselves, I think Pearl Jam is at least just as invested in the recordings as they were for Riot Act. And if you ask me now, what we've heard so far, to my ears, sounds more interesting than a lot of what was on Riot Act - which has a whole ton of by-the-numbers Pearl Jam going on.
you're probably right and it's good to have people remind us all of that now and again.

i don't know that it's cracking my top 4 either. But Riot Act is no where near there.

My top 4 is a pretty firmly entrenched group of (in no order) Yield, Binaural, No Code, Vitalogy. I guess more accurately it would be that 1994-2000 stretch. It would take a very specific album to ever displace one of these; One they will probably never make but that's ok.

Lightning Bolt so far is scratching me the right way.

My top 4 is vitalogy, ten, vs, backspacer. If the other songs are all good I suppose it could crack the top 4. Odds of being no worse than 7 are high
