I get what you're saying, Stip. I really do. It makes sense. And it's isn't unreasonable for someone who fell in love with Superman comics to want to see the character that they fell in love with on screen. You're totally right. It's just not as important to me personally as so many other elements of the film.

But, yes, it's totally fair to expect some sort of recognition therein. If you're going to totally change the character it either has to be thematic and/or commentary on the character/culture or you should just create a new character.

Or fans should just understand that things are adaptations based on other things and accept that there will be variations. Both are fair and reasonable.

to be clear, it's not that important to me either. But I'm not outraged that it influences the process, and I do think fan ownership is as much a player as the vision of the artist. Both are reacting to someone else's creation, and it's a complicated process.

This could all be avoided if "artists" would commit to original ideas and studios could let go of cultural/nostalgic appropriation. But that would require risk and/or genitalia. Something I'm not sure anyone in Hollywood actually has.

We're watching ESB tonight. My 7-year-old has never seen it. I'm thinking it will keep her attention better than Star Wars.

I told her we were going to watch it tonight, and she asked me if it has vampires. she's all into those kid vampire shows right now.

My 12-year-old girl has been into SW since she was little.

So far, she's been liking it ok, but now we're in Bespin and Luke and Vader are fighting and she's glued to the tv.
