Someone explain something to me. You have racist, white supremacist Trump doing everything he can for Isreal and the Jews. You have his main advisor, Stephen Miller, a Jew, that is a racist, white supremacist. When did Jews become ok for white supremacy? They used to be hated as much as blacks and Muslims are today. What happened?

Jewish support for Republicans averages around 30%, and for this presidency that number is closer to 25%.

Trump’s Israel policies have a lot more to do with the end-of-times fantasies of his evangelical base (and his own love of strongman leaders) than they do support for Jewish voters or concerns. And I honestly think Stephen Miller is a sociopath and a sadist more than he is driven by racist ambitions. I always come back to that story about him jumping onto the track field to prove that men are superior to women...it’s never as much about creating a new world with him as it is about demeaning or hurting someone he sees as an “other.”

It helps if you look at “we stand with Israel” the same way you would “The president was concerned about corruption in Ukraine” or “reducing the deficit is the most important job in Washington”....as a message developed in complete insincerity by a party that is messaging agnostic, perfectly happy to pretend to believe whatever they think will help them get the upper hand in that exact political moment.

Before today, Republicans offered one defense: none of these people actually heard the call.

So far today, they basically aren’t offering any defense of the president’s actions at all. If anything, Nunes’s questioning seems designed to add to the current testimony’s credibility.
