put another way, these statements aren't saying anything at all.
You're putting in solid work here trying to convince people to not like the album!

Nah I really like Avocado and Backspacer, but I think it’s their best since Riot Act. Lightning Bolt sounds like a band tired of the formula and not communicating.

What is surprising to me is it’s like Eddie’s been AWOL since RA. He was over compensating with the Rawk. His performances were missing a lot of the authenticity and the things only he can do. That and there is room in the album.

Been meaning to do this, too.
I just perused through the Lightning Bolt thread.

Kind of funny. It was 1,300 pages of anticipation and excitement but once the album was released around Mid October, there was little to no posting. Just dropped off.

RM died that day.
If I recall correctly, there was a new thread created when the actual album came out.

Ed tried really hard on S/T to create a profound, contemporary rock album and he just fell short. Has been adrift since. Seems like he has it back now.

Got the LP in my hands now. Beautiful cover. Proud that they put Norway on the cover.

Can’t wait to listen to this on vinyl.

I was cautiously optimistic for Lightning Bolt when a few of the songs leaked, but when the whole thing came out, I had a resigned feeling of "at least it's better than Backspacer, but it's not all that good on the whole." I wish I was more active when Backspacer came out because I thought it was awful, and apparently there was a lot of positive responses among this forum. Might have been fun to be one of the dissenting voices.

I am really digging this album. Upon my first listen I will just say that the two that stood out the most to me were Seven O'clock (far and away my favorite track) and Who Ever Said. I'm only on my second go around with it, but if anything, it's even better this time around as opposed to the opposite. Looking forward to actually getting the album so I can listen to it at home (listening on my echo dot at work, thank you Alexa). But overall, a solid new album and I'm really looking forward (hopefully) to hearing whatever they choose to play in Nashville!!

This fascinates me. I don't think I've seen a ranking that interests me as much as this one does.

When I get the hi-res files I'm going to open up "Never Destination" and "Take the Long Way" on Audacity and boost the bass and replace the original tracks in my folder. It is really starting to bother me how thin they sound on the low-end, which is a shame because I really like both songs.

i also think they suffered from trying to pigeonhole every band member's contributions into the albums (they still kind of suffered from that with this album, but not to such a large extent). it made the albums really messy, with no coherent sound.

I can't properly rank this yet. I think I'd put every song except Retrograde at 5 stars right now. Retrograde would probably still be a 4.
