Pitchfork review. 4.5, not great.

It's better than their last three efforts, but that's like saying Episode III was the best of the prequels. A turd is still a turd no matter how hard you clench your ass-cheeks.

“Superblood Wolfmoon”
Again, the experimental nature here is in the songwriting and the structure. For a while, what I was calling “chorus,” Ed was calling “verse.” At some point, we realized it didn’t matter. Some of that led to these textural elements, like, OK, we don’t have an easily digestible structure to hang your ear on as a listener, so let’s play around with the sound a little bit more to push things from one section to the next, or build the tension up and release it. In a traditional songwriting structure, some of those things are more baked in. This is them teetering on the edge a little bit, and it can be a little unsettling for the listener, because you don’t know what’s coming next. The normal roadsigns for what a song is aren’t there.

I am proud of myself for picking up on that, given my lack of a musical background
Post-songwriting
For a moment I was like, “no plat, I think this kind of arranging work can be considered part of the songwriting process.”

I got 404'ed.

Have they pulled the review?
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Damn. Seems particularly harsh given Mike's history with Crohn's

Ouch. Yeah, this part is also not great:
Gigaton? More like Giga-ton-of-shit. But, seriously. Eddie Vedder? More like Eddie-Vedder-Give-Scott-Stapp's-Voice-Back. Remember Creed?

Honestly if I hadn’t clicked on the link I probably would have believed Pitchfork would write that.

I've been kind of embarrassed to sing PJ songs to myself for three albums now, whereas I used to constantly sing the old stuff, it was melodically amazing

the dark ages have truly ended, the tunes here are so singable

Next up: the lost album of material from the sessions they may or may not have abandoned. They will call the b-sides release Gigaturd featuring Can’t Deny Me.

As an aside. I am still very much loving this album.

I 100% fell for this although upon further review, I’d anticipate Pitchfork will elevate their searing derision above the scatalogical.
