at this point, it's better for the song to remain a myth than something that has to beat your expectations.

That’s true. It’d be like someone discovering Sasquatch and it was just a rabid chimpanzee this whole time.

what a great description of Ed:
his voice still a strident, scrawny, yearning weapon of mass introspection

You can hear Stone singing on that “bah-bah” breakdown, which some people think is a kazoo. It’s just fuzzed-out guitar and some other weird sounds stacking up. As Ed was singing and re-singing it, he was super concerned about getting it right. He was trying to inhabit the character Stone created and convey the emotions he wanted to convey. Ed would change one word, or delete an “and” or a “the,” and even with that he’d check with Stone. And of course Stone was like, “You’re Eddie Vedder! Do whatever you want!”

Even the songs I might consider skippable (Alright, 7 O'Clock, Retrograde) have moments I like - either classic Pearl Jammy or something new for them.

I know the band well enough to place it better than the last three records for sure, but still below Binaural and Riot Act. Time will tell.

The Ringer wrote:“The looser things get, the tighter you become,” he seethes on the supremely weird and almost funky lead single “Dance of the Clairvoyants,” a bit of David Byrne–as-supervillain cosplay that sounds wrong on the radio in all the right ways.

This is the first time I’ve ever ordered the new release from the 10 Club and not gotten it the day of release or before. It actually says my order is pending. WTF?

source?
They're talking about it on Vinyl Collective.

Per Discogs, the etching on Side D says "In The Midst Of The 6th?" on the EU pressing: https://www.discogs.com/Pearl-Jam-Gigat ... e/15001230

And "Is This You?" on the US pressing: https://www.discogs.com/Pearl-Jam-Gigat ... e/14992999

Also, mastered by Bob Ludwig and cut by Chris Bellman. Mine is sitting in the post office in Providence and should arrive tomorrow.

Ok - been listening to this all day and I really really like this album. Honestly, it's probably in my top 4 or 5 of their catalog. As far as individual songs go - my fav (as stated earlier) is easily Seven O'clock. Really like Who Ever Said as well. The one I just can't seem to get into is Take the Long Way. If not for Mike at the end, I'd actually probably not like this song at all, but for me, Mike saves it at the end. But, it may grow on me, and maybe live it will be better for me, but just can't get into it. Again, just my opinion and I completely understand to each their own. And the somewhat dislike for Retrograde is kind of funny to me - only in the sense that a buddy and I were listening to the album this morning and I made the comment to him that Retrograde sort of reminds me of Sirens, and i'll bet there's a lot of hate for this song bc of that. I dunno, to each their own, but I like Sirens and I really like Retrograde as well - I'm really looking forward to hearing Ed sing that outro live, I think it could be/will be really killer.
I definitely feel this album was worth the wait and I am really looking forward to mowing many lawns this spring and summer with it blaring in my ears...

Now Sirens not only sucks but is also annoying for ruining other songs.

Wow, this is a great little interview.

If anything might endear some of these songs to me, it's stuff like this.

I've got mine in hand now. Can't wait for a real "spin".

Also glad to see local Bob Ludwig on this one. Can't remember them working with him previously. He's connected with a lot of greatness over the years.
