OK, but at what age did they transition, the people in this study? I’m only concerned for children because they tend to be unwise.Ms Harmless wrote:trans people have addressed "trans regret" over and over again
1% regret rate, compared to much higher in other situations

Re: Transgender Rights
I do not believe my job as a parent is to make my children the maximum level of happy. I believe my job is to help guide them to being responsible, fulfilled and who hopefully find deep purpose and meaning in their lives. Happiness is a fleeting thing.Ms Harmless wrote:it's a parent's job to provide a happy life for a child, exploring every possible option towards that end

So you were saying that children are just as wise as adults?Ms Harmless wrote:yawntree_ wrote:OK, but at what age did they transition, the people in this study? to me the latter is what happiness is, fearless self-awareness and fulfilmenttree_ wrote:I do not believe my job as a parent is to make my children the maximum level of happy. I'm not talking about giving them all the candy and trips to Disney Land they ask for
the fact that you equate "fleeting happinesses" to being allowed to transition is the problem, and instead of becoming comfortable with the level of "transition" your kids might want or need, you're stuck on worst case (and mainly imaginary) scenarios

I am saying that kids are as capable as adults to know their own gender (and to be unsure of it, in which case they need well-informed guidance)

Re: Transgender Rights
being trans is not a luxury you give to people, it's something they are whether you like it or not, and whatever you do / don't do about it

I’m not sure it’s so clear in every case. But you are giving me things to think about.Ms Harmless wrote:being trans is not a luxury you give to people, it's something they are whether you like it or not, and whatever you do / don't do about it

I live with and communicate with a support network of other trans people and organisations on a daily basis, across the globe; I'm very careful to make sure that what I say in here about us is solid and consensus-basedtree_ wrote:What is your conviction based upon?Ms Harmless wrote:I am suretree_ wrote:I’m not sure it’s so clear in every case. I might be one of "the angry ones", but that shouldn't undermine my specialised lens on our collective experience
of course, you can't say much that is true of everyone all of the time, but cis people are frequently free of that burden

the main thing I cling onto is that the assumption that someone is cis unless they communicate otherwise is untrue

Re: Transgender Rights
We are *this* close to resolving the issue here on a tangentially Pearl Jam centric message board. Perhaps by page 100.
