I've paused on those Talking Heads reissues at a number of stores. But I'm wondering: do you those have a noticeably improvement in sound over, say, a VG version from the '80s that you can get for $8? Some of my LPs from that era are some of the best-sounding ones I own (Dire Straits, for example).

Here's a weird thing to say, but once you start feeling like you've got a pretty "complete" collection you'll wish that you had more vintage records to hunt down. I sometimes walk into Flea markets or dusty used record shops and don't know where to start looking because I don't have a long wantlist of 70's or 80's records. Rare examples where it's better to buy new is if there is a true analog remaster.... such as the Neil Young release series.

Having said that, anyone here plan to check out the Springsteen remasters? They used some special remastering process straight from the analog tapes.

House hunting is hard when you've gotta find a place for 600 records. We found a place with what could've been a room just for records, but we were outbid.

My store got the new Godspeed in early, so i picked that up yesterday; also snagged a reasonably priced copy of Ty Segall's "Manipulator."

It seems like a lot of areas in the US don't have basements because there's no frostline to deal with, but I'm assuming they're pretty common in RI. I keep 85% of my stuff in our finished basement (with a 2nd system). I have a dehumidifier running in the summer just for precauction, but the new records and stuff in heavy rotation is neatly stored in the main living room with my main system. It's f*ckin' hard but I've done my best to pick audio gear with a high WAF, and furniture for the living room that can stash records.

When I was shopping for speakers I made an appointment for a listening session at a place in downtown Montreal and tested a few sets of speakers with an amplifier like mine (you can also bring your own). I also brought my own records/CDs. They thought they were selling me $3000 speakers but I was really just trying to gauge which brand I liked best so I could turn around and buy a used pair. You'll find that audiophile types generally keep their stuff in top notch condition, so there's no reason to shy away from some used speakers. My B&W's were top of the line in like 2002 or something like that.

I unfortunately do not but all the reviews, your rec's and the price are super right in my wheelhouse so I feel comfortable. Ill give them a listen once i find where i can buy them to just make sure but right now all i know is i can maybe get them at best buy in denver, which is 2 horus away.

We put an offer in on a house today with an unfinished basement, but the mortgage would be low enough that we'd be able to afford a renovation loan to finish the basement. Whole things looked dry and it had newer pipes. Was talking to my record store guy and he also advised to keep them away from exterior walls. Don't know how we would design it yet, but chances are there will be a Kallax right in the middle.

unfortunately my guy was unable to get replacement bulbs but thats okay. Its sounding sweet! Also a huge upgrade on the speakers as well!

It made me horny.
