People on my FB feed are freaking out that Trump won the Massachusetts primary, calling it "our state's great shame." Jesus Christ, it was only the Republicans that voted for him, and the state went for Nixon in '72 and then Reagan twice--in actual presidential elections!

I went to the local neighborhood restaurant with my mom and one of the neighbors was in the next booth and I was telling my mom over dinner how nice our neighbor is despite coming off as abrasive and townie/trashy type. When we got up to leave we talked to her for a few minutes and the neighbor went on and on about how much she loves Donald Trump.

Does anybody that like trump actually know anything about trump? Or do they just love his soundbites?

The relatives I have who like him all went through two stages:

1. "I don't always agree with him, but he says what he means." This is Plains State speak for "I agree with another person's racism but don't want to admit to being racist."

2. More recently, it's been "Well sure, he says some ugly things. But the only reason the other candidates don't talk like that is that they're politicians." This is slang for "Everybody is as racist as me, and anyone who says they aren't is lying."

These are the people who will think it's ok, so long as you all know each other, to make a joke that involves God creating people of color by "accidentally burning a few" like marshmallows, and then making a sour face at you when you don't laugh. And they will all vote Trump.

people often mistake rudeness and confident ignorance for authenticity. Trump has both in spades, and so he seems 'real'

There's something in our world that makes men lose their heads—they couldn't be fair if they tried. In our courts, when it's a white man's word against a black man's, the white man always wins. They're ugly, but those are the facts of life.

will Trump's white supremacist supporters eventually unravel with a Hells-Angels-at-Altamont-style event ?

perhaps left-wingers should consider a provocation/false-flag staging to lure the Drumpf-supporters' hatred out into the open

has any established party been so against, and vocally campaigning against their head nominee before? or is this something completely new?

From all accounts the GOP does not want to give the nominee to trump......

I can see something like this being a good system.

I got really into the idea of Instant Runoff Voting around 2004. Krist Novoselic of all people was doing a book tour on the concept. It's a smart, practical approach, but not one I think will ever upend the current system.

yeah I buy this a lot more than McP's racism angle. He's projecting. I think this is totally anti-establishment to the point of idiocy.

They are alike in some ways, not in others. Trump is worse, but Clinton only looks good in comparison. She's a loathsome human being.

I am kind of fascinated by the fact that the Republican establishment is in chaos and a leftwing socialist has put up a decent fight against the Chosen One. I feel like we are an election or two from a real break from the status quo, for better or worse.

I wonder what lessons, if any, future candidates will learn from Trump. Surely someone out there is taking notes. The wooden PC act isn't gonna cut it.

A little chaos is good for the system.
