So this looks like it might be following the supposed backstory (from http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Han_Solo/Legends) where he joined the Imperial Navy but then gets booted for helping a slave Wookiee named Chewie.

We're getting a 45 second sneak peak, so joining the imperial side may be the only similarity.

So I'm thinking that the clean Falcon interior can't be the actual Millennium Falcon we know and love.

We know that he never gets it brand new, he wins a used one from Lando via gambling, right?
Also shortly after that we see a shot of him looking at a clearly not new falcon exterior.
Lastly, how the fuck would have it gotten so dirty in just a few years or so?

He probably goes shopping for one, and can't afford it. Then the opportunity presents itself when he drowns his sorrows in some gambling.

Im not sure they knew, based on what we know about the previous solo movie.

Well they misfired w the director choice, but they were willing to foot the bill to basically refill to get what they wanted.

It’s landos ship at this point. He has it pimped out. Fits his characters style.

Han becomes a smuggler. It doesn’t do to be a smuggler and have a ship that stands out too much so he breaks it down and soups it up.

The falcon toy we’ve seen is called ‘kessel run’ falcon.
It may well be just all smartened up to take part in the race that’s all.
