I went to a PTA meeting once. I identify as a person who will never do that again.

White black brown, these are all inventions. We made them up relatively recently and they don't mean anything beyond amount of melanin in skin, which is a completely meaningless thing by itself. Just don't answer the question, it's fine. But don't be proud of it, that's weird

I think Argo means that racial identity categories do not "mean" anything in themselves--there's no trans-situational essence of whiteness, it doesn't signify anything--which is obviously correct. But of course these categories are meaningful.

He said we made it up based on melanin, which is meaningless. I agree melanin doesn’t really mean anything but that’s clearly a real thing that has…. Advised? Encouraged? Informed? people for most of our history. Right or wrong.
