Anybody see that politico fluff piece talking about how much Trump has been working from the private residence? The main thing I took from it was: Trump is too unhealthy to leave the residence. Why is the media pretending like this guy is not going to be drooling on himself in a wheelchair within a few years? Is it because he drives ratings?

Two associates of Rudy Giuliani tried to recruit a top Ukrainian energy official in March in a proposed takeover of the state oil-and-gas company, describing the company’s chief executive and the then-U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch as part of “this Soros cartel” working against President Trump.

“You’re a Republican, right?” Andrew Favorov, the head of natural gas for state-run Naftogaz, recalled the men, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, asking him, after their reference to investor and Democratic donor George Soros. “We want you to be our guy.”

Mr. Favorov said he met voluntarily this week with New York federal prosecutors as part of an investigation into the activities of Messrs. Fruman, Parnas and Giuliani, Mr. Trump’s personal attorney. Prosecutors last month arrested Messrs. Fruman and Parnas on campaign-finance charges stemming from alleged efforts to leverage political connections and campaign donations—some from foreign donors—to benefit their own business interests and to assist Mr. Giuliani in efforts to oust Ms. Yovanovitch.

I'd be very surprised. He's a different animal than Nunes: He's a Freedom Caucus founding member (if I'm remembering correctly) with broad support in a heavily gerrymandered district in Ohio. He's defending Trump because he can: His constituents love him, and he's not likely to be voted out anytime soon. So he's in a great position to climb the latter within his party by going all-in on the defense, and most likely being able to wash his hands of any shady dealings that may come up with Nunes or others.

To date, presidents have resolved the question “Can a president be investigated and potentially indicted for state crimes?” by the excellent expedient of not committing state crimes. Trump has apparently found that too high a bar.
