If people have issue with sound quality, isn’t that about the music?

this x 1000%

I grew up exchanging cassette tapes and mixes of shitty recordings of punk, rock, metal, funk bands all throughout middle school. You ever listen to a tape that had 10 different albums recorded on it? Even when those crappy tapes started to get all warbly and hissy, that didn't detract from my ability to determine which bands I really connected with. As someone that now writes and records and mixes music as a hobby, I find most of this hand wringing tiresome. You either like a song or you don't... and if you don't, then why obsess over production minutiae?
Totally.

The focus on production isn’t the focusedness that people need to be focused on.

Big no-no.
You would have hated the original avocado album thread

Same old thing every new album cycle. Wouldn't high-fiving each other about how much the song rules get boring after a while?

Talking about the things people don't enjoy about the song, and identifying how and why, is an interesting conversation, or at least has the potential to be - arguably more interesting than the alternative.

I like hearing criticisms of music I love because it leads me to examine the basis for my own views and sometimes come out with a richer and more nuanced appreciation for the work in question.

The criticism is the valuable stuff.

I don't think you should split the thread.

Discussing the song should mean every facet of the song, no?
Simple, really.

Pretty sure I was an RMer long before Avocado.
Never mind the new “join date”.

Then you should remember the endless pages of bitching about the production on that album. This is nothing in this thread!

On production, I don't think it sounds great and it's definitely not my preferred style of rock production, however I think it sounds better than either Backspacer or Lightning Bolt.

This at least has a cohesive aesthetic - radio ready glossy modern rock - and does what it sets out to do, whereas both of those records just sound awful.

I thought you also meant Romanian by "rooskie" a few pages back on the other thread.

I mean, compared to Lightning Bolt, sure. But there was a large and unhappy group of RMers not pleased with it. Some (many?) came around

RA is probably a highlight in their catalog, production wise. Think it was more the "Ed sounding like he was watching his dog get run over time & time again" energy in the vocals, and his seeming inability to open his mouth more than 20% of the way.
