I do think that Getaway and WWS sounds alike, as the part you showed... aboute LW and ATW, Its just something I noticed the first time I heard ATW... I may be biased, I dunno

I've always hated Amongst the Waves -- it is hands down my least favorite PJ song, 'coz I think it's the laziest song they've ever released. It sounds like EVERY PJ song to me. But I've never heard a specific lift from Life Wasted, so now I suppose I have to force my way through it one more time...

I do know how to listen to music! And you're right, they are the exact same rhythm; however, they do not use the exact same intervals (which is what I'm assuming you mean by "chord shape," which in these cases are all just standard power chords). This particular segment of "Worldwide Suicide" begins, to my ears, on what would be the relative minor to the root (which is to say, if the song is in C, this riff starts on A), the next chord being a minor third up (three half steps); this fragment of "Getaway" begins on the fourth in relation to the root (if the song is in C, this riff starts on F), with the next chord being a major third interval up (two full steps, unlike the 1.5 in "WWS"). The same subtle differences exist in the notes that resolve and restart the riffs as well. They may be minor differences, but there are punk bands whose entire catalogs consist entirely of these kinds of minor differences, so I don't think the fact that Pearl Jam have made two songs over 25 years that set varying pitches to the same rhythmic pattern is really that noteworthy an occurrence.

Musical patterns recurring throughout the lengthy career of an artist or band does not by itself constitute a "lift." Do people really think the band sits around saying, "Hey, let's just re-use one of our old riffs -- these idiots will never know, and it'll be way less work!"

I'm pretty sure the drummer for AC/DC is dead, and they just hooked him up to some wires aka Weekend at Bernie's.

Then they play the exact same drum track on every song, and some dude backstage turns a knob to adjust the tempo.

Do PJ have another great record in them? Serious question. The way they demo write and record is so fractured and hodgepodge I'm not sure they do.

The band is ready for an ironic album title for #11. Something like "Screaming Sounds from Seattle" or "Monkeywrench Records presents America's Favorite Blowhards".

I am 100% positive they have more than one more great record in them. But that's really not the point. The point is, have the band's tastes/preferences/goals shifted so much that their definition of great and the general fanbase's definition of great never overlap again?

I highly doubt it... I think their prime was in the early-2000, and I don`t even think that having a great record is their objetive anymore... Its more about making some songs to stay relevant and sell tickets for concerts.

I really doubt they would make a big effort to create something really great again.
