Listening to Core right now, damn this one hits heavy!! Plush is such a 90s treasure.
Cant believe how different this band turned out in the next two albums.

Re: The Stone Temple Pilots Thread
STP released three perfect albums and than two really good albums. For my money that lands then squarely in the #3 "grunge" spot. I love so much of their stuff.

yeah, i dont think they have a bad album. Even the last one with Scott, the self titled one, has very good moments and was also a step into another musical phase.

He's going to put Pearl Jam at the top, then either AIC or Nirvana, then STP. Soundgarden are the best of the bunch, so... yeah, you're going to be disappointed.

Re: The Stone Temple Pilots Thread
i feel like i should have liked STP much more than i do. i dont seek them out but also dont turn them off when they are on the radio
i feel i was duped with their debut. Sex Type Thing is such an amazing track which i was sold on and then the rest of core was nothing like it

I think it depends a little on how far we're expanding the "grunge" label.
But using bands that I think the vast majority of us would agree fit the bill...
1. Nirvana
2. Pearl Jam
3. STP
4. Soundgarden
5. Smashing Pumpkins
If we're including Jane's Addiction, I would sub them in at #4. If the Pumpkins don't count, I'd throw in AiC, obviously.

Re: The Stone Temple Pilots Thread
I like a lot of Smashing Pumpkins songs but I don't love any single Smashing Pumpkins album. At least as compared to the other big grunge bands' albums. But that wasn't my personal favorite ranking. That was a sort of 30,000 foot view ranking.VinylGuy wrote:Kinda shocked with SP being there i thought you didnt liked them

They also just aren't very emotionally evocative. So if you aren't a producer/mixer/player they don't always deliver.tragabigzanda wrote:Soundgarden is objectively the best grunge band.

And if we were ranking albums, Soundgarden would up there. Because whether your favorite is Bad Motor Finger or Down on the Upside or Superunknown, I think everyone has at least one SG record in their top 5 grunge albums -- especially if we're doing only one per artist.

Fell On Black Days, Like Suicide, Zero Chance are three of their most emotionally charged songs. They can get pretty bleak, which i adore.

I mean, yeah, they have moments, of course. But I think in comparison to their counterparts they are far less emotionally charged.VinylGuy wrote:i cant agreeepilogue wrote:They also just aren't very emotionally evocative. Ya know I can't stand ranking things but the fact that three out of five lead singers there have passed really sucks.epilogue wrote:zeb wrote:The latter.![]()
