My friend Roger Ebert and I strongly disagree with you.

its been awhile since I've watched them but remember adoring them.

There are some people that despise QT here.

Roger Ebert was basically the human equivalent of the Rotten Tomatoes audience score.

Appeal to authority, not a good look

The big fight scene in KB1 is really terrible.

I like them both. Basically a greatest hits movie of QT love for references.

Probably the last time i really liked a movie from him.

God I hate Roger Ebert

He never seemed to be consistent with how he reviewed movies. I found most of his reviews to be useless.

Roger Ebert was the only reviewer I ever liked.

He was a shitty writer with boring opinions who pretty much never offered insight. Also was prone to dumb anti-horror puritanism. And his terrible TV show laid the foundation for Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic and all that other horrible shit.

People who hate critics are about as mindful and intelligent as people who hate "the media."

I disagree that good critics approach art criticism as artists. It's a craft. The few that are good you will never hear about because they don't pretend they are artists. Most critics are useless because they think they are artists.


Or worse, they are moralizing ideologues masquerading as art critics and using art from actual creative people to push their bullshit. That's most reviewers these days.

I love good film criticism. People discount it because so much of it is garbage, but for me, there’s nothing quite like reading a well-written, thoughtful, insightful analysis.

I’ve always loved what Irvin Kershner said about Pauline Kael (I wish I could remember the full quote): “She helps me see my films.”

I didn’t say they consciously approach it as art; I said they’re artists. It just flows from them naturally as art. Good criticism doesn’t just mean explaining whether you like or dislike something - it means writing good prose, it means having a point of view and being able to express it meaningfully. That’s an art.
