Film criticism shouldn't be a consumer's guide. That's not criticism at all; it's basically just marketing. I really believe Ebert and his stupid, binary good/bad rating system really took this awful approach mainstream.

I look forward to everyone's idea of what the role of an art critic should be in the thread I made.

I divide his books/guides and TV show from his newspaper reviews.

His newspaper reviews were often very insightful.

Kill Bill 2. So good. Better this time than ever before. The_Raz loved it, too. Moreso cause she's a mom, now.

Ebert admitted the thumbs up/down was flawed. I believe it was foisted upon him.

I fail to see how him spinelessly agreeing to being a reductionist hack is any better

Jee wiz, Elvie. Speaking ill of the dead...

Ebert was a good/smart critic/man. He would explain why he gave a movie a thumbs up/down. He always had good justification for it. You could read the thumbs down review and decide his reasons for not liking it were incorrect and enjoy the movie anyway.

Watching Aquaman’s IMAX footage in 4K HDR is...almost hard to describe. It’s alarmingly clear and lifelike. It’s like the actors are right in front of me in my living room. Bizarre.

Pet Sematary.

I liked it enough. I love the original, it still gives me the creeps, but this one was good too. I like what they did with Ellie, the last half of the movie is interesting, the wife is a more fleshed out...cool remake.

The original is unbeatable but this one takes a different interesting path.
Spoiler: show
I really liked what they did with Ellie. The death subject and her being the one who comes back. The ending is fucked up.

The original is extremely beatable.
