As a conceptual album, I think it's one of their stronger efforts. Not as deliberately effective as, say, Vs or Riot Act, but much stronger than Yield or Lightning Bolt in how the overall package work to deliver a core concept...

But for me, there's also no denying that the sequencing is problematic. I want to listen to this thing pretty loud, and so I've got ear fatigue by the time I get to the final stretch. I've re-tracked it in a way that makes it much easier for me to get all the way through.
what was your retracking?

The tail-end of pretty much all these songs is really strong!

If i were to retrack this, I'd maybe make River Cross the opener and Retrograde the closer. I feel like this album might have deserved the quiet solemn opener setup that No Code and Riot Act had. The rocker opener sort of says "okay, let's go!" ... but this album feels like we're settling in for a more solemn ride ...

For how long the album is, I genuinely feel like it moves very quick.

Who Ever Said
Never Destination
Alright
Retrograde
DOTC

Quick Escape

Buckle Up
River Cross
I think that's extreme

WES
SBWM
DOTC
Quick Escape
Alright
Seven O'Clock

is totally fine

and the first 4 should never be listened to except in that order (no standalone listening permitted!)

back half is where the work is needed:

Never Destination Of the Earth (ultra-awesome re-tooled Josh Evans version)
Take the Long Way (TURND UP BASS)
Buckle Up
Comes Then Goes
Retrograde
River Cross (NO ACCOMPANIMENTS)

So is 7 am great or bad, or simply average?

After a dozen listens I still do not know.

The lyrics are very direct, very Bruce, but Eddie is capable of better.

I love the music though. But the song is super cheesy, It not as cheesy as Leash, or Sirens, or a dozen other PJ songs where they are good outside of the lyrics.

A single band of all bands.. Tens of thousands of posts, hating on Pearl Jam. And it is daily, it is not like every once in awhile.

Time to move on.

Participate in something you love. I guarantee that it is much more rewarding then shitting on something you dislike.

Or pretending that you are important, because a reviewer of the new album let you listen early from the bottom of their phone. Do you think anyone bought that bull shit?

I think the sequencing makes sense within the context of the vinyl. Four songs per side. Maybe I’m in the mood for slower songs... the four songs on Side C make sense. Etc.

From everything I've read, dime seems to adore this record, for the most part. Shouldn't speak on their behalf...could be wrong
that quote is from before it came out, when Dime claimed he'd heard it and everything sucked except for DOTC

Didn’t say it sucked. Said we’d heard all this before which we have in the most part*and it was stodgy meaning usual Pj midtempoitis. If these are the ones I heard. Not sure they are.

I don’t think you’ve read all my posts :)
I barely mention Pj on this board and haven’t in a very long time.
Thanks tho. And I really couldn’t give a flying fiddlers fuck what you believe tbh.
But sure go ahead and share your wisdom
