I think the US immigration and refugee process is so fucked that they should basically out source it to the UN. Treat all refugee claimants from Mexico south as Euro did Syrian refugees. Claims validated by the UN and told where they were being located to.
Until governments at all level are willing to take on illegal labour, the system is designed to fail.

I should find the prediction thread but instead I'll say that he's impeached but not removed.

So, can McConnell decide the path of the impeachment trial? Don't any rules and procedures have to pass Justice Roberts' test for an impartial trial?

Nope. The senate controls all of that. All he does is presided over to proceedings.

They shouldn't even bring it to the Senate. If they won't allow testimony, just keep investigating.

I guess "presiding" is a pointless term.

Mostly. The Senate can vote down anything Roberts says, so while he does have some discretion that discretion can be immediately checked by a majority of Senators. I'd say he isn't completely powerless since confrontations could be embarrassing so Senate leadership probably wants to avoid that, which could open the door for some minor influence from Roberts (we know how desperate he is to give the appearance of objectivity/impartiality), but ultimately the Senate gets to do whatever 51 Senators want.

Dems gonna have to come to terms with the fact that this president who was fined $2 million for defrauding charities and who uses his office to direct as much business as possible to his private companies is just super, super concerned with corruption.
